According to my experience, the plant will continue to develop from the node closest to where you took the cutting when someone inquired what happens to the mother plant after you take a cutting. The mother plant gets going again quickly, and you don’t need to do anything extra to promote new growth save your usual maintenance procedures.

I have noticed that my propagations with fewer leaves usually root better; I assume this is because the plant can focus more resources and energy on developing roots rather than sustaining leaf growth. I might be mistaken. For us poor mortals, all propagations are experiments! I’ve had my current RT cutting submerged in water for about 4 weeks, and now the aerial root is generating new water roots! I’m considering switching to LECA right now.
Yes, it is totally logical! I’m currently cutting an extremely large syngonium, and it’s taking forever. I may decide to chop it up into smaller pieces. Although I haven’t got any leaves on mine in Leca, the roots look amazing!

Combine some pothos cuttings with the tetra cuttings in water. My tetra cuttings quickly developed roots thanks to a natural rooting hormone in Pothos!

A tetrasperma cut off my friend’s newly acquired plant that she had rescued. Only one of my three cuts is fairly intact, and it’s all floppy. I sliced them, allowed the calluses to form, and then potted them in damp perlite. It appears to be going to start rotting again where I made the cuts because they are all shriveled. The ariel root appears to have been knocked off and is also damaged. I was very disappointed since I overextended myself in the exchange with my friend because I was so thrilled.
They are SO annoying. Keep trying; they might still take root, and it doesn’t really matter that the aerial roots are dropping off. I currently have a baby RT in my terrarium, and I believe that the high humidity is the reason for its success. Try to find something you can place on a sunny windowsill to act as a cloche to boost humidity.

Water Propagation
Cuttings in water are the simplest method of Rhaphidophora tetrasperma propagation.
Cut off a portion that has at least one node and a leaf using a pair of clean, sharp scissors, cutting a quarter inch below a node (meaning, the node will be included on the cutting).
Make sure at least one node of the cutting is submerged under the water before placing it in the glass. This is significant since the node is the location from which the new roots will emerge.
The cutting should be placed where there is plenty of indirect light. Every few days to a week, when the water becomes murky or slimy, make sure to change it, and as the water level drops, top it back up.
When transferring a cutting to potting soil, I often prefer to wait until the roots are two to three inches long. This plant’s roots may take several weeks to reach a length of a few inches.
You can move your cutting to its permanent pot once the roots have reached a length of a few inches. After thoroughly watering it, take care of it as usual.
Potting Mix Propagation
Directly insert the cuttings into the potting soil, making sure that the soil covers at least one node (remember, the node is where the roots will sprout from). Make certain that your pot is the right size for the cutting.
Your cutting’s roots should start to take hold after about a month. You can now VERY gently tug on your plant to feel for resistance. The roots are already there if there is resistance!
How are Rhaphidophora tetrasperma branches made?
Similar to its relative, the monstera deliciosa, Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is extraordinarily simple to grow. Cut a stem just below a node to propagate it. The cutting can be rooted in sphagnum moss, water, or soil that drains well. Keep the soil or moss moist if you do it. If you use water, you should change it about once per week.
You can plant the cutting in well-draining soil once the cutting starts to grow roots from the node and they reach a length of a few inches. While the plant establishes itself in the soil, keep the soil moist but not damp. You can gently tug on the stem cutting after a few weeks to check if it has begun to root.
Can You Propagate a Leaf Without a Node?
Simply put, no. For your cutting to produce new leaves, it MUST have a node.
You’ve certainly drooled over stunning images of a single monstera leaf in a lovely glass vase of clear water on Instagram and in home décor magazines.
The bad news is that even while a leaf without a node might develop some roots, it will still only be a leaf with roots. It won’t develop into a new monstera plant with stalks or additional leaves. There will never be more than one leaf.
The node is essential for propagation since it stores all of the genetic data required to develop a new plant.
Do All Monstera Leaves Have Nodes?
Nodes are little bumps that develop on the side of your monstera’s stem that is not covered by a leaf, not even on the stems of the leaves.
Your monstera’s vine develops nodes. In fact, because it hasn’t matured sufficiently, a young monstera may not have any nodes yet. Your monstera may not yet be mature enough to propagate from cuttings if it appears as though leaves are sprouting directly out of the soil. Can You Propagate Leafless Nodes?
So, while you CANNOT propagate a node without a leaf, you CAN propagate a leaf without a node!
Online vendors may provide leafless, unrooted nodes for sale. But the success rate won’t be as high as when you propagate cuttings with one or two leaves.
Age
As a monstera matures, its leaves become fenestrated, and no amount of wishful thinking will cause the plant’s leaves to split before it is ready. Monsteras are born with small, sturdy, heart-shaped leaves that gradually get larger as the plant matures. Once a monstera has grown to a width and height of at least 3 feet, it typically starts to develop the distinctive deep cuts. As a juvenile monstera develops fenestrations, you’ll also observe that it happens gradually and that each leaf’s number of splits grows with time. Therefore, patience is essential if you recently bought a little monstera and are waiting for your first split-leaf. Maybe the plant needs more time.
Light
If your monstera has been growing without producing split leaves for a while, it might not be getting enough light. As they mature, monsteras require a steady supply of strong, indirect light in order to develop split leaves. In order to save energy, a monstera grown in low light settings will not develop fenestrations and will instead push out tiny leaves. Consider using a grow light if there isn’t enough natural light for your plant.
