Since 1989, Arizona has hosted the annual college football bowl game known as the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
When the bowl was first established, it was held on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson at Arizona Stadium. The game was relocated by the organizers from Tucson to Phoenix in 2000. There, it was played at what is now known as Chase Field, the Major League Baseball stadium for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The bowl relocated a second time for the 2006 campaign. The bowl (at the time still known as the Insight Bowl) was permanently moved there after the annual Fiesta Bowl chose to play at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale rather than Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. Due to renovations at Sun Devil Stadium that were anticipated to take at least three off-seasons to complete, the bowl moved back to Chase Field in Phoenix for the January 2016 game. [3] The Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium, the Fenway Bowl at Fenway Park, and the Holiday Bowl at Petco Park are the other three active bowl games held in baseball-specific stadiums. The bowl will continue to be played at Chase Field through the December 2021 season.
Following a season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the bowl’s 2020 edition was canceled on December 20, 2020 due to a lack of teams available to fill all 202021 bowl games.

How did you celebrate the new year? Many of us rang in the New Year by tuning into CBS to watch the Arizona Bowl. On December 31, 2020, at 12:00 MST, Arizona Stadium hosted the sixth annual Arizona Bowl, which was broadcast on CBS. The unbeaten Mountain West Champion San Jose State Spartans took against the Mid-American Champion Ball State Cardinals in this NCAA-approved contest. There were COVID-19 limitations in place, thus no fans were permitted to go.
How did the Cactus Bowl fare?
What became known as the Copper Bowl in 1989 was originally going to be called the “Cactus Bowl.”
[5] The contest was known as the Copper Bowl up until 1996, when Insight Enterprises gained title sponsorship rights. From 1997 through 2011, the contest was held under its own brand. Restaurant brand Buffalo Wild Wings took over sponsorship of the game in 2012 and gave it its own name for two years. [6] After the 2013 game, Buffalo Wild Wings decided not to continue their sponsorship,[7] so the event’s organizers chose to change the name of the competition to “Cactus Bowl” rather than going back to the Copper Bowl moniker. Division II games for the Cactus Bowl, which originated in Texas, were no longer played after 2011. The redesigned Cactus Bowl was sponsored by TicketCity in 2014[8], and Motel 6 took over as sponsor in 2015. [9] In 2018, Kellogg’s took over sponsorship and changed the bowl’s name to Cheez-It to honor its cheese cracker brand. [10] In May 2020, the Camping World Bowl in Orlando, Florida, which had previously been sponsored by Cheez-It, changed its name to the Cactus Bowl. [11]
The game was held at Arizona Stadium on the University of Arizona’s campus in Tucson for the first ten years. The game was relocated by the bowl’s organizers in 2000 to downtown Phoenix’s Bank One Ballpark, a facility designed specifically for baseball. The Fiesta Bowl was replaced by the game in 2006 when it relocated to Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona State University in Tempe. The Fiesta Bowl had previously played at University of Phoenix Stadium in the Glendale neighborhood of Phoenix. In the 2006 game, Texas Tech overcame a 387 third-quarter deficit to defeat Minnesota in overtime, 4441, setting a record that has since been equaled by the 2016 Alamo Bowl for the largest comeback in NCAA Division I FBS bowl history[12].
The Copper Bowl was broadcast on TBS for its first three games. The game was broadcast on ESPN beginning in 1992 and running through the 2005 season. Following a four-year break, during which the game was shown on NFL Network, ESPN reclaimed the rights in 2010.
Who performs frequently at Camping World Stadium?
The Citrus Bowl, which was created for football, holds yearly collegiate bowl games as well as significant state football finals. Soccer matches, including World Cup and Olympic qualifications, are often held at the stadium. Orlando City SC, one of Major League Soccer’s more recent teams, calls it home.
In which conferences does the New Mexico Bowl compete?
The game will be contested between clubs from the League USA (C-USA) and Mountain West Conference in accordance with conference tie-ins (MWC). The American Athletic Conference and the bowl are connected (AAC).
The Bulldogs have an 8-3-1 advantage in the overall series heading into this thirteenth game between UTEP and Fresno State.

Central Michigan Chippewas (8-4)
Eight victories let Central Michigan to qualify for their fifth bowl game since 2015. This season, they defeated five opponents with bowl eligibility. They were defeated by bowl-eligible teams in each of their four losses.
The Chippewas are tied for 30th in the nation in scoring with 33 points scored per game. They pass for 270.1 yards per game while rushing for 180.6, which ranks 49th (ranked 25th).
For the Chippewas, Daniel Richardson has played most of the quarterback snaps. On a 61.3 percent completion rate, he has passed for 2,424 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions. At least 300 receiving yards have been racked up by five pass catchers this year. With 58 receptions for 929 yards and four touchdowns, Kalil Pimpleton has distinguished himself as a star for Central Michigan. Dallas Dixon has contributed, hauling in 44 passes for 696 yards and eight scores. JaCorey Sullivan has 10 touchdown catches, making him an expert at scoring in the end zone.
For the Chippewas, one back has handled the majority of the workload. This season, Lew Nichols III had the most rushing yards (1,710) and touchdowns (15) in the FBS. Myles Bailey and Darius Bracy will add depth.
The defense, which is ranked 68th in the FBS, surrenders 26.2 points per game. They allow 266.3 passing yards and 127.2 running yards per game, which is 31st in the nation (ranked 117th). With 80 total tackles, defensive back George Kreski leads the team. Troy Hairston, a defensive lineman, has 6.5 sacks and has pressured opposition quarterbacks. With 14 passes intercepted this season, Donte Kent has excelled in the secondary.
Boise State Broncos (7-5)
In the inaugural campaign under head coach Andy Avalos, Boise State won seven games to qualify for a bowl game. This season, they have won over five teams that are eligible for bowl games. They lost to teams who were eligible for bowl games in each of their five defeats.
Their offense averages 29.1 points per contest, which places them 59th in the nation. They pass for 260.6 yards per game while rushing for 120.4, which ranks them tied for 109th (ranked 40th).
For the Broncos, Hank Bachmeier is now an experienced quarterback. He completed his passes 62.8 percent of the time for 3,079 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Over 200 receiving yards have been racked up by four pass catchers thus far. With 77 catches for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns this season, Khalil Shakir has been a superb wide receiver. This season, Octavius Evans and Stefan Cobbs have both accumulated more than 400 receiving yards.
Boise State’s starting running back has been George Holani. He has 569 yards and a touchdown this season on the ground. He has been supported by Cyrus Habibi-Likio, who has 374 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Van Buren has nine touchdowns and 218 rushing yards, making him an expert at scoring in the end zone.
The defense, which is ranked 12th in the nation, surrenders 19 points per game. They allow 260.6 passing yards and 157.5 running yards per game, which is tied for 78th-worst (ranked 40th). Safety JL Skinner has made 92 total tackles, leading the club. Scott Matlock, a defensive tackle, leads the team with seven sacks. With seven passes intercepted and two passes defended, Kaonohi Kaniho has been outstanding in the secondary.
Prediction
It will be interesting to see how Boise State handles the Central Michigan offense. In the end, the Broncos’ defense will triumph because they have faced many strong offenses this year. However, Central Michigan will keep things close.
