Haworthias can tolerate a variety of lighting situations, although neither direct sunshine nor complete shade are ideal for them. All Haworthia plants’ leaves turn an unsightly red, purple, or brown in direct sunshine. If the damage isn’t too severe, move to a shaded area. These colors will eventually disappear.
Over time, plants in deep shade usually become weaker. You can observe it turning an excessively light shade of green, losing its marks, or changing from a compact to a lanky shape. If you observe this, additional light is required.
Watering
A plant can survive with just once a month’s worth of watering, but in really hot weather, it may need to be watered more frequently, at least once every two weeks.
In either case, water well and then wait to rewater until the soil has mostly dried up. Although these plants are quite tolerant of being underwater, if they are overwatered, they will quickly rot.
Make careful to do your best to prevent water from getting into the plant’s crown or rosette; doing so in low conditions will again accelerate rotting.
Because of their thick leaves, which can retain water, they can survive if you don’t water them for a while.
Feeding
Very rarely feed your Haworthia, and when you do, make sure it’s using a mild solution. Two or three times a year should be plenty for feeding. Although they are not heavy feeders, plants that are growing a lot of offset around their base may benefit from a bit additional feed.
Temperature
Warmth indoors on average from spring through autumn/fall. This plant likes to relax during the winter, so the naturally colder temperatures found in an unheated or guest room are ideal. However, it truly hates being too cold, and no lower than 4C. (40F).
Repotting
Since it is uncommon for any Haworthia to quickly outgrow its pot, repotting is typically only necessary when offsets have filled the pot. You may need to repot the clump if it occasionally breaks free, becomes unstable, and starts to tumble out of the container.
Repotting should only be considered if the plant has begun to fill the pot with offsets, as seen above.
If you do find that you need to repot your plant, use soil that is comparable to what you used before. Typically, grit or perlite will be added to regular houseplant or cactus compost to help with drainage.
You can probably just reuse the current pot or container if you divide the plant and cut back on some of the offsets to lessen the size of the clump overall. If not, simply select a pot that is a little larger than the previous one.
Propagation
Your Haworthia offsets and parent can be separated when you repot the plant. Make sure the offset has some roots by using a sharp knife and cutting as close to the parent plant as you can. Sometimes even using a knife is unnecessary because the offset will simply pull naturally with a little tug when it is loose like a crooked tooth. Just be careful not to overdo it!
No roots or you were acting too forcefully? – I’ve inadvertently removed larger plants from clusters in the past, leaving the cluster’s remaining plants and their roots behind. Whoops! Be at ease if this occurs to you. If the base is still intact, you may simply pot it up in a moist compost container, and it will quickly produce new leaves.
Allow the offset to somewhat dry for a day to lessen the likelihood that the raw “wound” may rot when placed to the compost. Then use a regular potting or cactus compost mix to pot up in a small container. Warm up and drink water.
In my experience, doing this at the end of spring or in the summer, when it’s warmer and lighter, has resulted in considerably more success.
Flowers
Yes, this is a houseplant with flowers. If they have been properly cared for throughout the year, the flowers will typically emerge in the summer on the end of a long stalk (inflorescence). Height / Spread
Haworthia is a tiny plant by design, often growing to a height of 4 to 20 centimeters. However, the blossom stalk can sometimes be rather long.
This plant is rather slender and narrow, but it spreads and multiplies readily through offsets; hence, each individual plant isn’t particularly wide, but if left alone, they will group together in a clump after a few years. The image below depicts what initially appears to be a single plant, but upon closer inspection, it turns out to be two separate plants.

Although these plants are little, with the right care, they can easily generate offsets.

Can a cactus be a succulent?

The name “cactus” derives from the Greek word “kaktos,” which means “spiny plant.” The ancient Greeks used this word to describe a species that was actually an artichoke variety rather than a cactus. 2000 years later, Linnaeus, who classified plants, gave a family of plants with distinctive characteristics like thick stems that served as water reservoirs, prickly or hairy coverings, and few, if any, leaves the name Cactaceae.
Cacti are simple to spot. They rarely have leaves because they have to work so hard to stay alive. They have stems that have been altered into cylinders, pads, or joints that store water during dry spells. Skin thickness lowers evaporation. For defense against browsing animals, the majority of species have bristles or spines, but some lack them, and others have long hair or a woolly covering. Large and vibrant flowers are the norm. Fruit may be both edible and colorful.

When moisture is abundant, ribs that resemble an accordion can extend; when there is a drought, they can contract.

Is Haworthia a type of aloe?
The size is one of the most obvious distinctions between aloe and haworthia. Haworthia typically remain fairly small at maturity, with rosettes measuring just a few inches in diameter, however some species can reach rosettes up to 12 inches in diameter. They grow well in containers as houseplants, and you can frequently cram multiple Haworthia into one container to form a gorgeous succulent arrangement.
