Are cactus plants beneficial to commerce?
After you have recently bought a cactus plant and placed it in your indoor spaces, if you find that you suddenly become itching, angry, or frightened, you should quickly do some study to determine what is upsetting you. It could be the plant you recently brought inside.
Typically, the following parts of your home shouldn’t be decorated with cacti plants:
Living room
Good Feng Shui is important in the living room. Since this is where you go to find comfort and quiet, it should be serene and isolated from the rest of your home.
Cacti plants will constantly poke you with their protruding spines, making you feel uneasy, if you have them all over the place. Therefore, avoid placing cacti plants in your living room unless it is in the fame and notoriety Bagua quadrant.
Kitchen
You make food and beverages in the kitchen for your family and guests, and you don’t want the food to taste off.
A cactus plant should not be placed in the kitchen because the energy it emits from its spines may be transferred to the food you are cooking and ultimately to the people who will be eating it.
Bathroom
Cacti plants should not be placed in bathrooms since you need to feel calm when using the facilities. There is one exception, though. Place your cactus plant in the area of your bathroom that you want to represent your popularity and reputation.
Bedroom
Most likely, your bedroom is the sole area where you can relax and unwind while you sleep. After a long day at work, you wouldn’t want any negative energy to interfere with your ability to relax and sleep. You might occasionally get pricked if you keep cacti in your bedroom.
Areas close to the entrance or outside your main door
If you don’t want your bothersome neighbors to come over, don’t put your cacti plants close to the front entrance. If that’s not the case, you want to leave enough space around the front entrance so that fresh energy can enter your home.
Office desk
It’s not a good idea to keep a cactus plant on your desk at work because it can scare away clients and collaborators. You want to maintain your workspace as tidy and positive-energy-free as you can.
Cactus: Is there a market for it?
The insatiable need of millennials for plants that require no maintenance and enhance the aesthetics of a small bedroom is creating a nefarious black market that threatens an entire biological environment.
The Guardian reports that cactus theft in American deserts is at an all-time high as the market for succulents has increased to tens of millions of dollars. Cacti sales have increased by 64 percent since 2012.
Ray O’Neil, the head park ranger at Saguaro National Area, told the Guardian that “people try to steal all kinds of stuff from the park, even rattlesnakes.”
But the main focus has always been cacti.
It appears that the cactus resale industry is very lucrative. There is plenty of incentive to invade locations like Saguaro’s Cactus Forest in order to benefit from an East Coast blogger’s feeble attempts at interior design because cacti sell for approximately $100 per foot on the underground market.
Park guards have received complaints that thieves are stealing cacti by tearing them out of the ground. The unlawful approach takes far less time than starting cactus from scratch; some strains can be grown up in as little as 15 years. However, those that enter this field of labor don’t even give a damn about the health of the plants.
According to Karen Little, a greenhouse manager in Texas, “you could tell the people who stole the plants were money lovers, not cactus lovers.”
The plants were simply pulled from the ground and placed inside trash bags.
The thefts have gotten so severe that some cactus in Arizona have even had microchips placed in them so they can be found if they are ever stolen. The size of the issue has nearly led to the creation of a whole new branch of law enforcement.
According to a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service detective who asked to remain unnamed, “when I first arrived, we rarely investigated cactus theft.”
Currently, we are bringing lawsuits against thousands of plants at once. I worry that we won’t be able to stop the illegal trade because demand is so great.
The next time you’re going to buy a succulent to put on the window sill of your apartment, make sure you’re buying one that’s legally obtained. It might not stop the careless and erratic trade of cactus on the black market.
What is the cactus’ profit?
Hossain chose to cultivate cactus commercially in 2016 with three sheds in front of his house after seeing the need for such indoor plants.
Since then, the employee of an NGO headquartered in the neighboring Pirojpur district has expanded his private garden with two more huts and a variety of new species.
Currently, Hossain’s garden contains over 250 different species of cacti and other succulents, as well as different kinds of orchids, bonsai trees, adenium, and hanging plants.
Cacti, though, continue to be his best-selling item, bringing in between Tk 35,000 and Tk 40,000 every month.
The local Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) says that increasing cactus production might create job possibilities and, as a result, bring financial prosperity to the area by citing his achievements.
Hossain’s garden contains a variety of cacti species from at least eight nations, including the US, Thailand, Italy, Indonesia, and India. Cacti can withstand almost any climatic condition.
Aloe vera, lajjabati (also known as the shameplant), satamuli, a kind of asparagus, and other medicinal plants are also present.
Hossain’s garden has a total plant value of at least Tk 6 lakh to Tk 7 lakh, with each cactus fetching prices ranging from Tk 150 to Tk 3,000.
Along with the cacti, he also sells additional gardening supplies needed for cactus culture, such as coco peat, bone meal, and ready-mix soil.
Additionally, he continued, “these plants can be purchased online from the garden’s official Facebook page.”
Hossain claimed he divides his time between taking care of his garden and working at the NGO.
I make roughly Tk 35,000 each month from both online and offline sales, and this has turned into my pastime, he continued.
Hossain continued by saying that the plant will be delivered by courier if a purchase was placed through Facebook, which makes up around 99 percent of his sales.
Cacti are a highly demanding amateur plant, according to Hossain, who also discussed the costs of cactus cultivation and the risks posed by new business owners.
It cannot grow in regular soil because various materials, such sand, coal, manure, bricks, coco peat, and wood shavings, must be added to prepare the soil.
But beginning a new farm doesn’t have to be expensive, Hossain said. “But first you have to understand how to take care of this plant.”
Cacti are regarded as decorative houseplants with a high demand, according to Md Shafiqul Islam, deputy director of the DAE office in Bagerhat.
It is currently in great demand on the domestic and international markets. Depending on the species, cacti can be purchased for cheap or expensive costs.
Since Altaf has had experience growing cacti, Islam continued, “If any other farmer wishes to grow the plant, we will offer them the appropriate advice.”

Cacti bring bad fortune?
Experts in Vastu and Feng Shui contend that cacti, despite their beauty, can convey negative energy within the property. It is thought that the leaves’ thorny and pointy thorns contain negative energy. Cacti can bring bad luck into the house and increase family tension and anxiety. But this does not preclude you from owning a cactus plant at home. They can truly assist you if placed in the appropriate location. For instance, when placed on your terrace or near a window, it fights the incoming bad energy. It genuinely turns into the “protector for your home” in this way.
