Thread them onto the PVC pipe one at a time, working your way down. Put some pressure on the first one at the bottom, just above the hardened cement, then use hot glue to attach it to the PVC pipe. If done correctly, you can complete these 5 pool noodle at-home workouts for less than $5 overall using the pipe and pool noodle(s).
DIY Foam Roller
To make measuring the pool noodle easier, I’ve already cut it in half. I took some of our foam rollers’ lengths. Their length ranges from 15″ and beyond. This one I decided to make 16″.
Cut the pool noodle with a pocket or kitchen knife. You can also use a saw. The PVC pipe should next be cut to the same length as the pool noodle. So I cut the PVC pipe at 16″ after measuring it. Once the PVC pipe has been cut, take it and simply push it inside the pool noodle. PVC pipe will fit perfectly snugly.
Voila! You have a foam roller that you created yourself. It works excellent and is really similar to a foam roller from a store. To avoid exposing any sharp edges, you might wish to slightly shorten the PVC pipe. Or you could just cover the ends with some duct tape.
DIY Axle Bar/Fat Bar
It’s really easy to convert a regular barbell into an axle bar. For this one, I utilized a pool noodle that is thicker and larger than usual and appears to be an industrial version. Unlike standard noodles, which have a 2″ diameter, this one has a diameter of around 3″.
Be aware that a normal axle/fat bar measures two “to the diameter. So using a standard pool noodle will allow you to replicate that precisely. This pool noodle is three because “It turns out to be a SUPER fat bar in terms of diameter.
On a typical men’s 25 kg barbell, the space between the collars should be around 51 1/2 inches “giving or taking. approximately 51 “on the noodles, then slice it.
Then, using a knife, cut the noodle lengthwise until you have completely gone through the hole. Be careful not to sever the noodle through to the opposite side.
You don’t have to cut it all the way through the noodle. It’s challenging to do, and you’ll see that I fell well short. But it makes no difference. Use a yardstick or a length of wood as a guide to ensure a straight cut. After cutting the noodle, just cram the barbell inside.
When fully put on, it appears as follows: TAH-DAH! DIY axle bar and fat bar finished. It fits exactly flush up against the collars based on my precise measurements.
It’s a beast to hold onto this. Surprisingly, it doesn’t move much when you lift it, and your fingers don’t have much wiggle room either. This is a fantastic alternative for anyone considering purchasing an axle bar or trying out strongman lifts before investing in a real axle bar.
DIY Glute Ham Raise & Bridge Cushion
Not so fast! The pool noodle can stay on your barbell. You can have the ideal hip cushion if you perform glute ham rises and bridges. Stop bruising your pelvis now.
DIY Barbell Insulator and Protector
Wait a minute! I didn’t say you were allowed to remove the pool noodle just yet. It can also be used for a huge number of other things besides lifting.
If you work out in your garage gym in a colder climate, leave the pool noodle there whenever you’re not lifting.
Additionally, it is suggested that you leave the noodle on your barbell if you reside in a humid area, such as Florida. Here is why
Polyethylene foam is used to manufacture pool noodles. Foam made of polyethylene is fantastic and has many wonderful qualities.
What a pool noodle on a barbell is to having a roof over your head. Among their qualities are:
- outstanding thermal insulating qualities
- Invulnerable to bacteria, rot, mold, and mildew
- Water, chemical, solvent, and grease-resistant
A frozen barbell in a garage may not be warmed by a pool noodle, but it will be insulated and kept from getting any colder than it already is. Polyethylene foam is present in homes and structures for a reason.
The pool noodle also serves as a strong barrier against rust, cooties, and, god forbid, any unintentional chemical spills in the garage or adjacent thanks to its water and mildew/mold resistance capabilities.
You always keep your car in the garage if you have one, right? Why not apply the same principle to your barbell?
DIY Water Dumbbell
You could want to create some DIY water dumbbells if you don’t care how ridiculous you appear and want to strength train in your pool.
The two pool noodles add up to a total of 16″. Allow 6 to 8 inches extra for the PVC pipe’s length. I decided to add 8″ to the shaft of the dumbbell. Use the PVC pipe’s end to knock out a stopper before sliding the pool noodle pieces over each end.
Simply insert a piece of pool noodle sharply and forcefully into the PVC pipe. You’ll have no trouble removing a plug. To get plugs for both ends, repeat with the same end. After that, slip something long down the pipe to remove one stopper. Not both at once!
