Diaper Cake Assembly Instructions
- One diaper should be rolled and fastened with a tiny rubber band. Repeat with the remaining diapers.
- Put a large bottle of shampoo or baby lotion in the middle of your cake foundation. An empty paper towel or wrapping paper tube might also be used.
- Starting at the bottle, start rolling up diapers in a layer. One thick rubber band wrapped completely around the exterior of each individual diaper will hold them all together. Use as many diapers as necessary to evenly fill the entire cake base, although I advise making the base layer three diapers deep.
- The size should be reduced by at least one round of diapers before adding the second layer on top of the first. Repeat for the third layer and, if necessary, any extra layers you decide to add.

- Ribbon. Ribbon is the most popular material to use, but you may also get creative with tulle, rolled-up receiving blankets, or even wrapping or scrapbook paper that has been cut into strips.

How many diapers are required for the diaper cake’s bottom layer?
Decide how big you want the cake’s base to be and then calculate how many diapers it will take to create that base to arrive at your number. Consider how many tiers you want beyond that.
To estimate how many diapers you will need for the subsequent layer, divide the number of diapers in the tier below it by two for each tier. For instance, you would need 16 in the middle layer and 8 on top for a three-tier cake with a bottom layer constructed of 32 diapers.
How is a diaper cake fastened to the ground?

There isn’t much preparation required for a wrap diaper cake. Simply remove the diapers from their container, then continue to step 3.
Step 3: Position the diapers
Position the rolls vertically and closely together until you reach the desired size for the base tier of a roll-up diaper cake. Use a thick rubber band or ribbon to hold the rolls in position. You can afterwards cover the rubber band you’re using with ribbon if you’re using one.
Use a small amount of hot glue to secure the ribbon, being careful not to get any on the diapers, or create a tiny knot that you can later cover up with a decoration. Another choice is to use the long ends of the ribbon to tie a large bow.
If you plan to have a second tier, insert around three wooden dowels between the diaper rolls to ensure that the rolls in the following layer are securely secured in place.
More diaper rolls can be wrapped around the dowels to form the second tier. It’s ideal for the second tier to be lower than the first.
Like you did with the first tier, fasten the second tier with an extra-large rubber band or ribbon. If the dowels protrude, you’ll need to trim the top tips off (or use shorter dowels) to make them disappear.
Step four will be followed after you have added as many tiers as you want (the majority of cakes have two or three tiers).
Place a fresh paper towel roll upright on your base and wrap the diapers around it to create a wraparound diaper cake. Wrap the first tier of your diaper cake repeatedly until it is the desired width.
When you’re finished, use a ribbon or an extra-large rubber band to hold the diapers in place. Hot glue, a knot, or a bow can be used to secure the ribbon; just be careful not to get any on the diapers. When you get around to decorating your diaper cake, you’ll be able to cover it if you use a rubber band.
Remember that some people choose to surprise the expecting parents by using a bottle of champagne instead of the paper towel roll. You might also use a baby bottle as an alternative. It thereafter might be included in your gift to the parents. In either case, it’s a pleasant surprise, but a paper towel roll also functions just as well.
Continue wrapping diapers around the top half of the paper towel roll to add a second tier. A rubber band or ribbon should be used to hold the second tier in place, making ensuring it is smaller than the first. Either proceed to step four or add a smaller third tier in the same manner.
Step 5: Wrap the diaper cake
It’s a good idea to wrap the cake if you’ll be moving it to help keep it from breaking or becoming damaged.
The foundation of the diaper cake should be placed on top of a large sheet (or two) of cellophane or soft tulle. After that, gather the cellophane’s corners above the cake, cinch them together, and tie a ribbon to finish off the wrapping.
Which diaper sizes are appropriate for a diaper cake?
Typically, 50 to 75 newborn or size 1 diapers are used in diaper cakes. What you’ll need is as follows: a cake icing (a stuffed animal, ribbon, board book, etc.)
