Every drop of water that cactus can in their native habitat is absorbed and stored; in regions with very little rainfall, this is the sole defense they have against protracted droughts. Most plants will die if they lose just 10–20% of their water, while cactus can easily withstand a moisture loss of 60% with only a transient development setback.
