I have a mad love with plants. There is a 100% possibility that I will bring home a new green baby if I enter nurseries or garden centers unattended. And since I’ve been staying home more, my plant addiction has gotten worse (or perhaps better? I truly have no idea. I brought a fiddle leaf fig tree, lots of low-maintenance houseplants, and some adorable containers home. But for now I have my sights set on a colorful and brand-new to me plant: an Aldi glow-in-the-dark succulent. Glow in the dark, indeed!
When it hits shop shelves on October 21, this lovely succulent will only cost you $5.99. Could Halloween timing be any more ideal? I disagree. When placed in a dark space, the plant, which goes by the name “Glowing Star in the Dark succulent,” creates a glowing green light. Growers Direct claims that the plant absorbs light at night, either from a lamp or the sun. According to an Aldi representative, the plants were painted with eco-friendly glow paint that was created specifically for use on plants. Its flexible texture enables the plant to develop and shine.
This succulent is ideal if you’re looking for Halloween decorations that aren’t too spooky or a creative replacement for a nightlight in your child’s room. Additionally, it’s a fun plant to add to your collection and needs almost no maintenance (succulents thrive when you let them get some light and dry out completely between waterings).
There is only one catch: these little luminous succulents are an Aldi Find, which means they are only available for a short period of time. If you want one, act immediately because they may not restock them if they sell out.
Glow-in-the-dark succulents: are they real?
The key to a happy life is variety! Plant and flower breeders are always developing new types, such glow-in-the-dark blooms! And now you can get plants that glow in the dark! This is the first time a plant that glows in the dark has been successfully developed, claims a plant breeder in the Netherlands. A star-shaped succulent called “Glowing Star in the Dark” was created by Amigo Plant, and at night it glows bright green like a sparkling star! The procedure, of course, is maintained a closely-guarded secret after years of laborious development of this plant.
Even though The Glowing Star in the Dark is unique, it doesn’t need any particular maintenance. It’s basically just an ordinary succulent plant that glows in the dark. Make sure it gets enough light, though. The plant absorbs light from the sun or a lamp during the day, then at night it glows. The product’s components are safe for the environment and non-toxic.
The plant was recently on display at the most recent FloraHolland Trade Fair and has been for sale since the end of October 2012. Both children and adults would enjoy receiving the plant as a unique gift! The business anticipates strong sales of the plant, particularly around the holidays.
Real succulents have been painted?
The vivid displays of painted succulents at the nurseries in recent years have drawn a lot of attention. These succulent floras would have immediately caught your notice due to their striking distinctive colors.
Along with painted succulents, numerous garden management specialists worked hard to introduce new plant species. However, their efforts included many chemical processes and scientific techniques, like cross-breeding, which produced a distinctive range of plants.

Although they go through photosynthesis a little differently than other plants, succulents nonetheless require it. Although it’s possible that this dye has no impact, it seems more likely that most people who paint succulents do it for the novelty value and end up forgetting about them and letting them slowly wither away on a ledge.
Do colored succulents actually exist?
Where have succulents been all my life? I almost fell in love when perusing Debra Lee Baldwin’s alluring Succulent Container Gardens. Your succulents will be as healthy when you get back from your trip as they were when you left if you give them well-drained soil and lots of sunlight. They might even appear better than before.

Which plant emits light at night?
Since ancient times, people have been figuring out how to light the night, from torches to halogen street lighting. Now, with the aid of a fungus, maybe someday the trees will guide us on their own. A group of international scientists has created tobacco plants that emit green light using four genes that let a fungus shine in the dark, inspiring fantastical future scenarios.
The study makes use of the Neonothopanus nambi mushroom’s propensity to illuminate the night in its native Brazillian woodlands. The fungus uses a luciferase enzyme, a kind of molecular device, as a byproduct of its metabolism to create light. Fireflies, plankton, and jellyfish are just a few examples of the several bioluminescent species (animals that create light) that contain luciferases. Exists a flower that illuminates at night?

According to the experts, these are the first flowers that have ever been discovered that naturally shine inside the visible light spectrum. There are some additional flower species that emit ultraviolet light.
These clearly luminescent blooms contain betaxanthin pigments, which give them their brightness (Bay-tuh-ZAN-thins). The Spanish researchers discovered that these pigments glow a yellowish-green color when exposed to blue light. Therefore, the flower’s yellow-colored sections also emit green fluorescent light.
The researchers discovered that four o’clocks also contain a violet pigment known as betanin (BAY-tuh-nin) in some locations. As an anti-fluorescent, it functions. They imply by saying that the majority of the fluorescent light that the betaxanthins emit is absorbed.
According to the researchers, the pattern of fluorescence and non-fluorescence may aid in luring bees and other pollinating insects to the blooms. However, since the effect seems to be minimal, attracting pollinators is unlikely to be the only solution. It’s also plausible that betaxanthins shield flowers from environmental stress.

How can I save my succulents that I painted?
Recently, I had a conversation with a representative of a local business that specialized in the importation and sale of houseplants. She gleefully informed me that her company would soon be importing and selling spray-painted succulents when I asked if anything new was on the horizon, as if it were a good thing.
I was appalled. A plant can no longer perform photosynthesis and generate energy if you spray paint it. It is unexpectedly placed in an environment where it will probably die. It can only survive if it grows new, paint-free leaves that can once more absorb light. Even then, it will be drastically deformed and weak. Recovering can take years. most don’t. The just pass away.
The salesman was perplexed. She claims that young people only purchase succulents these days for their decorative appeal. Whether the plants live or die, they don’t care. When they pass away, they are simply thrown away and replaced. They’ll adore succulents with spray paint.
I can’t say that I think that plants have emotions, but I have no qualms about eating a carrot or a stick of broccoli. However, the idea of buying a houseplant and then watching it wither away makes me feel quite uncomfortable. Are young people really that cold-hearted? The SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) would be on them in no time if someone regularly acquired a cat or a dog, then neglected to feed it and caused its death. They would have to pay a fine or go to jail.
Consider the SPCA’s response if a pet store offered gerbils or kittens that had been painted with harmful materials.
Why does the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Plants (SPCP) not exist? I find the entire situation unethical, if not illegal—buying a plant and never providing it any care, guaranteeing its death.
The idea that all “young people are so cruel as to purchase plants with no intention of ever caring for them, only as transient decorations they throw away when the plant dies, defies credulity. I frequently receive emails from worried “young people” asking why their succulent is dying, what’s wrong with it, and what they can do to rescue it. Look it up on any search engine: “What’s wrong with my succulent?” is a very common query that I’m sure younger people also ask.
Buy a plastic plant if you ever want a genuinely low-maintenance plant! Care must always be taken of living things!
Succulents have been marketed as low-maintenance houseplants and easy-to-grow houseplants for many years. That is obviously complete rubbish. The biggest distinction between them and the majority of other houseplants is that when they don’t have the right conditions, they die more gradually. Any salesperson who tries to convince you that a living plant doesn’t require light or water is trying to con you.
With very few exceptions, succulents require a lot of light. In fact, almost all of them do best in full light. Even though the widely used echeverias (Echeveria spp.), with their rosettes of blue-green leaves, are among the plants that require the most intense sunlight, they are nonetheless marketed as lowlight plants.
In addition, all living plants require watering. No exceptions apply. Despite having a lot of water stored in their tissues, succulents eventually need to be watered.
