As a result, it is both male and female hermaphroditic.

It is thus for some other reason that the spider plant does not produce kids. That’s usually because it’s either too young (it has to be around a year old before producing offsets) or it’s not getting the proper growing circumstances.

A spider plant, it just so happens, is a very simple plant to grow (indoors at least, outdoors, it needs a tropical climate). It will produce at least a few offspring on its famous hanging stems despite inconsistent waterings, prolonged drought, little or no fertilizer, and barely acceptable temps.

When a spider plant doesn’t produce any offspring, it’s almost always because it isn’t getting enough light!

Keep in mind that for green (photosynthetic) plants, light is their only source of energy. Light is as crucial to them as food is to humans.
