Number 5: Sansevieria ‘Fernwood’
This sansevieria is a little different from the rest, with dozens of slender, flattened, but also tubular leaves springing from the pot and arching this way and that, like a great shock of hair. It’s apparent it’s still a sansevieria because each leaf has the same pattern of alternating tiger stripes in hues of green and silvery-green that other sansevieria variants have.
Number 4: Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Laurentii’
This is the “traditional” sansevieria of the lot, in our opinion. ‘Laurentii’ grows in clusters of upright, strap-like leaves, some of which remain straight while others twist slightly, giving each plant a unique appearance. Each leaf has a characteristic creamy-yellow border that spans the length of the leaf and across the tip, with alternate patterns of green and silvery stripes.
Number 3: Sansevieria zeylanica
S. zeylanica is similar to ‘Laurentii,’ but also somewhat different. S. zeylanica has the same strap-like, erect leaves as ‘Laurentii,’ but instead of bright greens and creamy yellow borders, it opts for a moodier palette of blue and gray greens. The designs are still vibrant; each leaf has its own distinct style, with unique combinations of stripes, spots, bands, and ripples.
Number 2: Sansevieria cylindrica ‘Starfish’
Sansevierias, on the other hand, pursue an entirely different path, growing their leaves as pointed tubes rather than straps. ‘Starfish,’ as the name suggests, looks like a half-buried sea star in a pot with many fan-shaped, cylindrical leaves radiating forth from a central point. ‘Starfish’ is a tough plant with thick, rigid leaves that resemble wood. However, the sansevieria stripes remain, this time in concentric circles around each leaf.

Where should I place a snake plant in my house?
- Select a container with a drainage hole in the bottom. Snake plants thrive in terra cotta pots, which allow the soil to dry out more quickly than plastic pots.

Spread newspaper on the floor, remove the plant from the pot, and shake off as much of the old soil as possible to ensure that the roots are clean. Place the plant in the pot’s center, then fill it with additional dirt and firmly pat it down. Thoroughly water the soil and set the plant in a bright, indirect light source. It will take 2-4 weeks for your plant to recover from the shock and acclimate to its new surroundings.
