Where do you put golden pothos?
- Pothos plants should be kept in a warm environment; room temperature is best. The plant’s growth can be hampered if it is exposed to frequent drafts or cooler temperatures.
- Pothos should be exposed to bright, indirect light. They can endure low light, but their growth will be slower and their leaves may lose some or all of their variegation.
- Water only when the soil appears to be dry. Pothos dislikes moist soil, and its leaves turn yellow.
- During the spring and summer, apply a diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer once a month.
How to Propagate Pothos Plants
Pothos are a beautiful houseplant to share with family, friends, and neighbors because they are easy to grow. Alternatively, keep all the children to yourself and turn your house into a pothos junglewe won’t tell!
- Choose a healthy-looking vine from which to take a clipping. The leaves should be vibrant and vigorous, not wilted.
- Make a stem cutting with your knife. A good stem cutting should be 4-6 inches long and have 2-3 leaves on it. Just above a root node, cut the vine (i.e., the spot on the vine where aerial roots grow out of).
- Place the cut end of your cutting in a tiny pot of potting soil or a transparent glass of water once you’ve finished. Pothos may be grown in either water or soil, but cuttings can be sensitive if moved from water to soil or vice versa, so pick one and stay with it.
- You should see roots (in water) or notice that the plant can support itself after a few weeks (in soil).
Is golden pothos rare?
Pothos, Jessenia The variegated leaves have a marbled look on some and are nearly pure golden yellow on others. The ‘Jessenia’ pothos is an uncommon and difficult-to-find kind of houseplant due to its popularity.
What’s the rarest pothos?
Because Jessenia pothos is a slow growth, you won’t have to bother about repotting it anytime soon. The foliage is heart-shaped and similar to Marble Queen Pothos, but with less noticeable variegation. It features a limey-green variegation that is lighter and noticeable.
Manjula Pothos
The leaves are green and heart-shaped, similar to other top pothos kinds, but with wavy edges. Each leaf has different shades of silver, white, cream, and light green variegation. Some leaves are extensively flecked and splashed with green, while others have big patches of white or a combination of the two.
Pearls and Jade Pothos
It’s a University of Florida-developed patented variety. The edges of the leaves have more white and silver-gray variegation than the middle. In addition, the leaves are smaller than those of other pothos kinds.
Cebu Blue Pothos
It has firm leaves, unlike other pothos. Although, under the correct lighting, it makes up for it with an unique shine of metallic sheen. Large blue-green leaves with natural splits are arrow-shaped. More blue-green houseplants can be found here.
Silver Pothos
Although Silver Satin Pothos is classified as a pothos variety, it belongs to a distinct genus. Allow it to bask in bright indirect light for the finest color and variegation. With a dazzling dark green tone and glittering silver dots and borders, the foliage is attractive and intriguing. In hanging baskets or simply pouring out of pots, it looks lovely.
Hawaiin Pothos
If you want enormous foliage, this is perhaps one of the best pothos varieties. It’s also beginner-friendly and disease-resistant. The huge gold and green leaves help to filter the air inside the house. The plant will grow very long over time, so prune it to keep the appropriate form and size. It can also be grown in shady areas outside!
Jade Pothos
It is endemic to Polynesia and can be found in many tropical areas. It adds a calm charm to flats and offices when grown in a pot. The containers can be placed on any elevated area from where the water will flow down. It stands out from other pothos because of its heart-shaped leaves and solid dark green color.
N-Joy Pothos
Though its foliage appears to be similar to Manjula pothos at first glance, it has unusual variegation and shades of greens, whites, and yellows. It’s one of the greatest pothos kinds to keep on a shelf because of its long curling stems that dangle down attractively.
Snow Queen Pothos
As the name implies, Snow Queen features gorgeous white patterning on its leaves, similar to Marble Queen Pothos. The only distinction is that the marble pothos has a pale tone while the snow queen has more noticeable white variegation.
Harlequin Pothos
Harlequin is the most difficult pothos to come by. It resembles Manjula and appears to be a cross between marble and snow queen pothos, with little greater variegation on the leaves. Pair it with jade or silver pothos if you really want to bring out its brilliance.
Choose the Correct Variety
Choose kinds that naturally grow huge leaves if you wish to include pothos with large leaves in your plant collection. Hawaiian and Golden pothos are the two best-known varieties, featuring enormous green foliage with cream variegation and robust stems. These kinds prefer a few hours of direct sunlight per day and bright shade the rest of the day!
Can you put pothos in a fish tank?
Pothos can be found for a low price at your local hardware shop or plant nursery. Pothos grows quickly, so there’s no need to buy a large plant, especially in aquariums with high bioloads and a lot of fish waste. We paid $4 for the smallest container and were able to divide it into six to ten plantlets.
If you’re very tight on cash, you can start with a single pothos leaf borrowed from a friend, which will quickly establish roots in water. However, we prefer to use a small plantlet with some existing roots for rapid growth. Ensure that all dirt and fertilizer on the roots are fully washed away so that your aquarium’s water chemistry is not harmed.
Separate your pothos into individual plantlets with 2 to 4 leaves each and wash the roots carefully to eliminate any dirt or fertilizer.
If you have plant-eating fish, keep the pothos in a hang-on-back filter out of the way. Place it far away from the filter’s motor compartment so that the roots do not grow into the impeller and block it. If your fish aren’t afraid of the pothos, you can just stick the plant’s roots in the tank and let the leaves grow out of the water. The plant should be held in place by the aquarium lid so that it does not fall in.
Remove the cover from the hang-on-back filter and “plant” the pothos as far away from the motor as possible. If necessary, trim the roots in the future.
The pothos will eventually grow into a long vine that you can train to climb along a wall or along some shelving. Its long, stringy roots will form a lovely jungle for your fish to swim in, and you can always trim them back if they become too dense. Furthermore, you can easily take off a stem or leaf and reproduce it in future aquariums. Pothos may be the greatest filtration you can get for less than $5, thanks to its incredible ability to keep nitrate levels and algae development low.
Pothos plants not only provide excellent biological filtration for your aquarium, but they also grow into a lovely vine outside the tank, with deep roots for fish to swim around and hide in.

Why is golden pothos called devil’s ivy?
It’s dubbed Devil’s ivy because, like James Bond, it’s impossible to kill and stays green even when maintained in the dark. But, hey, it won’t grow very quickly in the dark, so plant it near the window in filtered light. It can also thrive in fluorescent office lighting.
Do golden pothos have to hang?
Plants of the golden pothos can be planted in hanging baskets or on a high shelf with the tendrils cascading down. If you wish to move a golden pothos with long vines to a hanging position, you must keep the vines from tangling.
How do you pick a good golden pothos?
Place your ‘Neon’ Pothos in a sunny spot with indirect sun to keep their vibrant color. The darker the mark, the darker the duller the green leaf. Additionally, as the plant becomes older, the older leaves will darken over time, while the newer leaves at the top will be the most bright.
