You might be wondering what the fingertip test is. It’s that easy! Place it about an inch or two deep in your pothos’ pot with a clean finger. Then feel the dirt to see how damp it is.
Is it extremely moist? It’s fine if you haven’t watered your pothos since last week for the time being. Is the earth extremely dry, almost bone-dry? That’s awful news, and it’s something you should address right now with extra water.
So, what if the earth is suddenly moist? Does that mean you’ll have to wait a week longer to water your pothos? Certainly not.
When it comes to watering your pothos, follow the seasons. I’ll go into more detail about this in the next section, but a houseplant will be thirstier during certain seasons than others, depending on the time of year.
If your pothos is actively growing, I’d recommend doing the fingertip test a few days later to see how moist the soil is.
