Many plants can be propagated through cuttings, which is why I frequently combine these two topics, but majesty palms cannot. A majesty palm must be propagated via the separation method.
Majesty palms produce offshoots or “pups” that you can separate from the mother plant and plant separately, similar to many succulents. You can separate your majesty palm’s many stalks if you notice that they all seem to be growing from the mother plant’s original bulb.
Lift the majestic palm out of the pot by gently tipping it on its side. The plant should NOT be pulled out from the top!
If the plant is still in its nursery pot, you can cut the plastic pot off the root ball or press the container to coax the plant out.
Plan how you’d like to divide them based on how many puppies, or various plants, are growing in the container. Each pup can be separated and planted separately, or you can separate them into a few plants for each pot.
Try to disentangle the root ball with your fingers after massaging the root ball to make it more relaxed. You might need to slice the outside of the root ball with a knife if it has become compressed in order to free it. In order to make the root ball simpler to handle and remove some of the dirt from it, you can also use a hose.
It could take some time, especially if your plant is big and packed closely together. Start dividing the several stalks into separate plants as the root ball starts to loosen. If the individual plants’ roots are very lengthy, you can cut them to promote the development of new roots. (This might also make them smaller pot-friendly!)
You can now plant each of your own mini-majesty palms in a separate pot.
To do this, choose containers with drainage holes and fill the bottom with a small amount of fast-draining palm soil (or our go-to recipe for homemade palm soil). Put your majesty’s palm plant in the center of the pot, then add soil to the area surrounding it to support the plant’s upright position. Be sure to allow a space of about two inches on top for watering.
Your new baby majesty palms should be watered after the dirt has been added to the container until the water barely begins to drain out the bottom. Add a bit more dirt if it begins to settle, being careful to leave an inch or two of space around the edges.

Do majestic palms enjoy being confined by roots?
As the potted majesty palms expand, the roots either become confined to the container or begin to protrude through the drainage holes. It is therefore required to repot your majesty’s palm into a bigger container. A majesty palm that has been repotted will have the additional room and new soils it needs to accommodate the additional root system.
Newspapers, pruning shears, a new pot or container, fresh, well-draining potting soil, and lava rocks if your new pot or container lacks drainage holes are some of the materials you’ll need while repotting your majesty palm. Water the plants
To remove the dirt and prime the root ball, you must water your plant two days prior to repotting. Fill the pots or container with water until it begins to easily drain through the drainage holes. To further soften the soil and loosen the roots, water your majesty palm once more in the morning of the day you intend to repot them.
Select a larger container
The majority of pots with bottom drainage holes are useful for repotting. You must select a potting container that is only a little bit bigger than the existing one. For healthy growth, the majority of majesty palms require at least a 3-gallon container.

Loosen the plant’s roots
To break up the roots, use your hands. Use a pruning snip to cut the extra-long roots off if the plant has them. Avoid cutting the plant’s base’s thicker roots. Use your hand to unwind the roots if your majesty’s palm is bound by them.
Remove old potting mix
Take out around a third of the plant’s previous potting soil. Since the plant ate up the majority of the nutrients in the previous potting soil, you will need a new one.
Add new potting mix
Fill the new container with some fresh potting soil. Before adding the fresh potting mix, place lava rocks in the bottom of the container if your new potting container lacks drainage holes in the bottom.
Add the plant to the new container
Put the Majesty palm that you took out of the old container slowly into the new one. Verify that the plant is placed on top of the newly added layer of potting soil. Around the plant, add more potting soil until the roots are firmly in place. Give the roots in your new container adequate room to breathe.

Can a palm tree be cut down and planted again?
If you cut the trunk of a palm tree, it won’t grow back. A palm tree won’t regenerate if the trunk is chopped off. Only at the growing tip, also known as a crownshaft, at the top of the trunk does a palm tree grow; removing this growing tip by cutting the trunk causes the plant to die.
