You can just give the container a brief soak in water if you are aware that the potting soil includes worms.

Because of the unfavorable environment in our homes, earthworms are not very common in indoor plants. They can’t breed there without a doubt, and they also stay little. Furthermore, there are sometimes only one or two in the pot rather than dozens.
Earthworms can only be found in plants that were outdoors during the previous summer. While the plant was outdoors, the worms crawled into the potting soil and remained there until it was brought inside again in the fall.

Small (1/8 inch) black insects called fungus gnats have one set of clear wings, relatively lengthy legs and antennae, and tiny heads. In the developing medium, females lay teeny, yellowish-white eggs that hatch in 4 days. The legless, black-headed transparent larvae have no legs.
The larvae eat for around 14 days before pupating close to the medium’s surface. Adults have only a few days to live. An average generation takes 20 to 25 days to complete in a greenhouse.
Shore Flies
The same size as little gnats, shore flies are larger and have darker bodies. They also have short antennae. Looking carefully at the insect reveals a pair of smokey wings with multiple distinct markings.
They can be spotted resting on almost any surface in the greenhouse because they can fly well. They resemble winged aphids, except aphids move more slowly and have two pairs of wings. They also feature the recognizable, tube-shaped cornicles on the abdomen. The fungus gnat’s life cycle is comparable to this one. The yellow to brown larvae, which can grow to a length of 1/4 inch, are distinct in that they lack a head. The majority of the algae that larvae and adults eat grows on medium, floors, benches, or pots. Some have been observed burrowing well into the stems of little plants. At the soil’s surface, damaged plants will readily break off. Inside the greenhouse, the adults might disperse soil pathogens.
Bloodworms
The eye-catching crimson “worms” that can be seen squirming in float plant water are known as bloodworms. These long, cylindrical larvae resemble the larvae of fungus gnats in that they lack legs and have an easily identifiable brown head.
Hemoglobin, the same oxygen-carrying substance found in our blood, is what gives the red color. This bug can grow in water with very little oxygen since hemoglobin is present.
Bloodworms are frequently found in standing water, including animal drinking troughs and other puddles of it. Although the adults of these insects, which are close relatives of the mosquito, do not have sucking mouthparts, they do not feed on blood. The larvae, which have chewing mouthparts, typically eat algae or other aquatic organic materials. They might be found in plant roots that penetrate the bottoms of float trays, but they don’t seem to do any harm. Bloodworms often spend their entire lives in water, unlike shore flies and fungus gnats, which can survive in “extremely damp” conditions. These insects will be less prevalent if standing puddles are eliminated from the surrounding area and the float bed has a minimal amount of exposed water surface.
Due to their high moisture needs, controlling these pests by avoiding overwatering and lowering moisture levels in growing media will help. Fungus gnats that lay eggs find peat-containing potting mixtures and highly organic soils to be particularly alluring.
THRIPS
Thrips are thin, small, varying in color from light brown to black insects that are about 1/25″ long. The four long, fringed wings on their backs are held flat. Thrips consume food by rasping the sap-oozing surface of the plant. The look of heavily affected leaves is mottled or silvery. Eggs are laid in leaf slits by female thrips. In 2 to 7 days, eggs will hatch. Nymphs eat similarly to adults and go through four molts as they grow. During the final nymphal stage before becoming adults, they are dormant.
During the summer, contaminated plant debris or flying insects are used to transport wingless adults into the greenhouse, where they reproduce all winter long. Thrips can be controlled by using screens on ventilators to prevent infestations, inspecting new materials before they enter the greenhouse, and controlling weeds there.
In greenhouses, several species can be found. Thrips affect a variety of greenhouse plants, but azalea, calla lily, croton, cyclamen, cucumber, fuchsia, ivy, and rose are among their most vulnerable hosts. Many different thrips species also spread plant diseases. The tomato spotted wilt virus or the impatiens necrotic spot virus are transmitted by the western flower thrips and onion thrips, which are the most dangerous. This virus affects a wide range of plant species.
CUTWORMS
Caterpillars are the larval forms of all moths. They gnaw on the leaves, stems, and fruits of numerous plant species. Moths entering through ventilators or carrying infected plants to the greenhouse can also cause infestations to start.
Cutworms are a significant pest of young plants. They conceal themselves in mulch or soil during the day and eat plants at night. When keeping an eye out for these insects, seek for leaves or plants that have been cut into huge portions.
The variegated cutworm is the cutworm that is most frequently discovered on float plants early in the year. It can utterly obliterate a huge number of seedlings and tiny plants. It is about 1-1/2″ long when fully grown.
SLUGS
Slugs can develop into problematic greenhouse pests. Slugs are slimy, squishy creatures that eat primarily at night. During the day, they prefer cool, wet hiding spots. Cultural Controls are Essential
