However, when you first begin, it can be really frustrating to try to figure out how to make those plants happy. Overwatering is typically regarded as the most frequent cause of early plant death. Fortunately for us, if you adhere to these straightforward instructions, 90% of the plants in existence will be content.
Make sure there is at least one drainage hole in the bottom of the pot if you are planting in one. Happy roots are necessary for happy plants, and happy roots are necessary for proper drainage. Without adequate drainage, pots are relatively simple to overwater.
Check to see if your plants need water before watering on a regular schedule. If your plant is housed in a pot, feel the soil’s surface with your finger or a mirror to inspect it. If they become too dry, commercial potting mixtures can virtually become water-repellent. You might need to take action to re-hydrate the soil if, after watering your plant, it appears that all of the water is draining between the edges of the pot and soil ball. Once the soil has grown and is no longer being dragged away from the pot’s edge, immerse the pot in a tub of water for a while. Resuming regular watering procedures.
You can rehydrate your pot or basket by continuously watering it if it is not convenient to soak it in a tub of water. Water the plant liberally to achieve this; it will likely appear that most of the water is circling the soil rather than permeating it. When you rewater, the soil should appear to be absorbing more water after waiting 30 to 60 minutes. The soil should be moistened and taking up water once again after the third watering if you wait another 30 to 60 minutes.
