Sometimes having too much of a good thing can have a negative effect. Hydrangeas enjoy water, but overwatering or wet foliage can harm plants. Leaves become brown or black when there is not enough water. Whole plants lose their leaves when there is a severe drought. Root rot, which encourages the development of black spots on leaves, is brought on by an excess of water in the root zone and a poorly draining site. Long-lasting dampness on the foliage serves as a breeding habitat for disease germs, who leave behind black leaves. Tender hydrangea leaves are blackened by late spring frosts. This may completely stop the current season’s flowering in other hydrangea cultivars. In reblooming cultivars, flowers developing on new wood will appear later in the season if a late spring frost destroys the initial flush of flower buds.
How should hydrangea leaf rot be handled?
On shrubs that had damage the previous year, fungicide should be sprayed on fresh leaves every 10 to 14 days. As fresh leaves emerge from the plant and grow, spray them. Spray the stems and limbs, being sure to reach the underside of the leaves. If your leaf spot problem was serious, regular fungicide applications may be able to eliminate it.
Why are the stems on my hydrangeas becoming black?
By carefully examining the roots, such as checking them visually to see whether they visually appear decayed or smell like they are rotting, you can determine whether there is a root problem. Temperature and Humidity
Tropical regions are where most indoor plants are native. They favor warm, muggy environments. Try keeping your plants in regions where the temperature is between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit to keep them comfy. Anything below 55 degrees won’t be conducive to growing plants. Rotted Plants
Sadly, there are times when black leaves appear for reasons that are wholly uncontrollable. Bacterial infections can result in rot that turns leaves black and destroys plants swiftly. Purchasing your plants and cuttings from a reputable source is one of the greatest ways to prevent this. Cheap, big-box retailers frequently get their plants from unhygienic growth environments. Although black leaves on your plants can be reversed, in certain situations they are an indication of bacterial, fungal, or disease issues. How can leaf stains on hydrangeas be removed?

Espoma Copper Soap is what I use, and you spray it on the leaves. No matter what kind of copper fungicide you use, be sure to follow the instructions on the packaging and remember that you’ll need to keep an eye on things.
Why do the leaves on my hydrangea seem burnt?

This will not only stop the leaves from becoming brown during the warmest parts of the day, but it will also lessen the effects of drought stress.
Wait for the hydrangea to naturally lose any brown leaves and blossoms, or prune back any that are present.
What happens if you give a hydrangea too much water?
We are aware that Hydrangeas require a lot of water and that it is preferable to soak them several times per week as opposed to watering them lightly each day. You may therefore believe that it is impossible to overwater them, but this is untrue. Hydrangeas are susceptible to overwatering, and they like dry soil.
Although hydrangeas prefer moist soil, excessive moisture can cause root rot. A hydrangea’s development can be stunted, its blooming cycle can be slowed down, and eventually it can die from overwatering. This problem could be just as challenging as submersion.

We’ve experienced our fair share of brown, decaying leaves as we’ve learned how to properly care for various home plants over the years. We weren’t sure at first whether to take them out or leave them. Here is what we’ve discovered works the best.
Do you need to remove the dead leaves? Yes. Your indoor plants should have brown and withering leaves removed as quickly as possible, but only if they are more than 50% damaged. By removing these leaves, the plant looks better and the healthy foliage that is left can receive more nutrients.
Even though it might appear straightforward, there’s more to it than merely cutting those leaves off. To keep your plant healthy, you must assess how much of the leaf is dying and then carefully remove the damaged areas.
What do leaves’ black tips indicate?
Every day, plants naturally lose and gain water through their tissues. When lost water cannot be restored for some reason, the tips of the leaves turn brown. Water should ideally move from plant roots via stems and rivers to leaf tips last. My Shrubs Are Turning Black:
A fungus known as sooty mold is the root cause of 90 percent of blackening shrub occurrences. A fungus called sooty mold develops on the waste products of a plant-eating insect.
Sooty mold is usually not dangerous in small quantities, but in large quantities, it can cover the leaves of your shrubs to the point where they become unable to absorb sunlight. Drought Stress:
The leaves wilt, start to yellow, and then turn brown from the exterior inward under drought stress. Winter Damage:
The majority of these adverse winter consequences are caused by trees and shrubs losing moisture through pores on their leaves and needles.
