The hydrangeas will eventually require replanting in the ground. You must have Mophead hydrangeas, I’m assuming (Hydrangea macrophylla). The pH of the soil, in particular, affects the bloom colors of certain varieties of hydrangeas.

- You would apply aluminum sulfate to keep it blue.
- A more neutral soil pH usually leads to purple blooms.
