At the 2022 The Honda Classic in Florida this week, many of the top golfers in the world are competing, and you’ll notice that many of them are sporting purple ribbons on their hats or attire.
The players are honoring renowned golf journalist Tim Rosaforte by donning purple ribbons.
After a brief fight with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, Rosaforte passed unexpectedly in January at the age of 66, ending his career as a Golf Channel insider and reporter.
In the history of the profession, Rosaforte is one of the most significant and prominent golf journalists. Prior to switching to television in 2007 with Golf Channel, he held positions at GolfWorld and Golf Digest. Rosaforte switched to only working on television after doing mixed jobs in print and television.
Rosaforte was the first golf insider and had the largest network of contacts in the game. His work ethic was outstanding, and even more impressive was the way he treated others, especially his sources, other journalists, and others.
The PGA of America granted Rosaforte an honorary membership in 2014, something the organization has only ever done for a dozen people.
Players at the Sony Open in Hawaii the week after his passing also donned purple ribbons, the color of the Alzheimer’s Foundation. The media center for the Honda Classic was named in Rosie’s honor because it was his local tournament.
Players, media, and businesspeople have all paid tribute to Rosie this week.
Why do masters athletes wear purple clothing?
The sad death of Prince affected individuals all around the world. While listening to the music they grew up with as teenagers, some people lamented the passing of yet another musical artist. David Owen, editor and writer for Golf Digest, played a round of golf on April 25 with the Sunday Morning Group while wearing a purple outfit in his honor. They were all dressed in purple, including their shirts, caps, and socks (you can even make out a couple golfers wearing purple socks in the photo). The song “Little Red Corvette” was playing in the background.
While mourning the loss of a song legend can be difficult, paying homage by listening to the music that moved and uplifted countless listeners worldwide is a wonderful way to honor them. These golfers made the decision to honor Prince’s memory while having fun on the course and remembering everything that he accomplished during his brief time on this planet.
Remembering Prince Your Own Way
Maybe this gives you the idea to put on your headphones, turn on your favorite Prince song, and head out to the golf course. You could get in some walking golf while treading along the course and getting yourself psyched up for the next hole with Prince singing his popular songs.
Even if you don’t enjoy his music, there are a lot of other ways to honor his life and give back to your neighborhood. Prince was not only a musician but also a humanitarian who never boasted about his volunteer activities. He performed at charity events and gave money to organizations that support underprivileged children and young adults. He supported the careers of young musicians and dancers and urged young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue jobs in technology. By lending a hand to those in your neighborhood, you may accomplish the same thing.
Wear purple, play golf, listen to Prince’s music, or make a charitable donation to honor his memory. Many things can be done to honor this poet, singer, and philanthropist. Choose the most appropriate tribute for the occasion.

But the way that athletes, caddies, the media, and other people are paying tribute to him this week reveals more about the man he was than the honors he got. Heartfelt responses from Tour professionals poured in as soon as word of Rosaforte’s passing spread.
“David Duval expressed his extreme sadness upon learning about Tim Rosaforte’s loss. “very fair and nice to everyone he encountered. I’ve been fortunate to know him throughout my career. I feel even luckier to call him a buddy. All of us just lost a lovely person.
Rosaforte’s alma institution, the University of Rhode Island, established the Tim Rosaforte Scholarship for Interdisciplinary Neuroscience in his honor last year. Earlier this week, Briony, Lyle’s wife, said that Lyle had made the decision to forgo further medical intervention in order to receive palliative care at home.

A practice round was played on Monday at Augusta National Golf Club, where azaleas are in bloom along the 10th fairway.
This week, the flowering azalea is the brightest star in the landscape at Augusta National and in the majority of the city’s neighborhoods.
The azaleas weren’t in bloom at the 2012 Masters Tournament due to last year’s early spring, but this week they were. Despite some mild days in March, the famed flowering shrubs of Augusta were hindered by a late cold snap.
“According to Suzanne Holmes, the horticulture program assistant at the Richmond County Extension Office, we got it right this year.
Right now, more than only azaleas are blooming.
The dogwood, peach, and cherry trees, wisteria vines, and spirea bushes are all in full bloom. Daffodils are still in bloom, Holmes added, even though the redbud trees are just about finished. The Lady Bank roses should be in full bloom by the end of the week.
“It was very stunning when I was driving down Walton Way earlier today, Holmes remarked.
A variety of early- and late-blooming azaleas were planted by the Augusta National Golf Club and several locals. According to Holmes, the enormous bushes covered in gorgeous purple and lighter pink-purple blossoms are Indica species.
The many shades of green leaves and needles can also be appreciated in addition to all that color, according to Holmes.
This year, some azaleas and other spring bloomers began to blossom in January, raising concerns that the azalea show may end before the Masters.
But the plants stopped after the recent cooldown. According to Holmes, seeds-reproducing plants have an internal mechanism that instructs them to hibernate until the weather heats up once more. The seeds won’t be frozen to death in this manner.

Why do Honda Classic’s ribbons have a purple color?
The PGA National is presently hosting the 2022 Honda Classic. Notably, during round one, players were spotted wearing purple ribbons that had Rosie written across it. Notably, this was done in memory of Tim Rosaforte, a renowned golf writer who tragically went away on January 11.

The players are honoring the victims of the Texas school tragedy in Uvalde by donning crimson ribbons.
On Tuesday, a shooter entered Robb Elementary School and remained there for almost an hour before killing 19 pupils and two teachers. Before entering the school, the 18-year-old shooter also shot his grandmother.
Players have also been urged to write “L L L L,” which is an abbreviation of the school’s motto, “Live. Learn. Love. Lead,” on their hats and attire.
A 15,000-person village with a majority of Latino residents, Uvalde is located 54 miles east of the border with Mexico and 80 miles west of San Antonio.
Players, media, and businesspeople will help the Uvalde neighborhood all week long while paying respect to the shooting victims.
