Neem leaves have not been shown to be beneficial in the management of COVID-19.
Cultural and social impact
Due to his birth under a neem tree, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a Vaishnava saint associated with the Bhakti movement and regarded by Gaudiya Vaishnavism and ISKCON as an incarnation of Radha Krishna, was given the name Nimai, which means “born under a neem tree.” The United States Department of Agriculture and W. R. Grace and Company received a patent for a neem-based anti-fungal treatment from the European Patent Office (EPO) in 1995. When the patent was first issued, the Indian government contested it, arguing that the method for which it had been awarded had been used in India for more than 2,000 years. The EPO ruled in favor of India in 2000, but W. R. Grace appealed the decision, arguing that the product’s previous art had never been published in a scientific publication. That appeal was unsuccessful, and the Neem patent was canceled by the EPO on March 8, 2005.
Description
Neem is a fast-growing tree that occasionally reaches a height of 35. Due of its deciduous nature, it loses a lot of leaves in the arid winter months. The branches reach out and are broad. The roundish, moderately dense crown may have a 20-mm diameter. The neem tree resembles its relative, the chinaberry, in appearance (Melia azedarach). The opposite, pinnate leaves are 20-long and with 20–30 medium–dark green, roughly 3-long leaflets. Frequently, the terminal leaflet is absent. Petioles are brief. White and fragrant flowers are grouped in roughly drooping, up to 25 cm long axillary panicles. Between 250 and 300 blooms are carried by the inflorescences, which branch up to the third degree. A single blossom measures 5 long by 8 broad. Male flowers, protandrous flowers, and bisexual blooms can all be found on the same particular tree. When ripe, the fruit measures 14 by 10 inches and is a smooth (glabrous), olive-like drupe that can range in shape from elongate oval to nearly roundish. Fruits have a thin exocarp and a yellowish-white, extremely fibrous mesocarp that is bitter-sweet in flavor. Mesocarp thickness is 3. The neem tree and the bakain tree, which has a similar appearance, are sometimes mistaken. The fruit on bakain looks similar and contains toothed leaves as well. Neem leaves are pinnate, but bakain leaves are twice- and three times-pinnate.
Ecology
The neem tree is renowned for withstanding drought. It typically flourishes in regions with sub-arid to sub-humid weather and 400 – of yearly precipitation. It can thrive in areas with annual rainfall of less than 400 mm, although in those situations, it is highly dependent on ground water levels. Neem may grow in a variety of soil types, although it prefers deep, sandy soils that have good drainage. It thrives at annual mean temperatures of 21, making it a typical tropical to subtropical tree. It can withstand high to extremely high temperatures but not temperatures below 5 C. The tree has now established naturalized populations in various locations and has spread into the savanna, especially around rivers.

Genome and transcriptomes
Ganit Labs in Bangalore, India, has sequenced, analyzed, and published the transcriptomes from several organs of the neem plant. By creating subtractive hybridization libraries of neem fruit, leaf, fruit mesocarp, and fruit endocarp, CSIR-CIMAP Lucknow was able to detect ESTs.
Phytochemicals
Numerous phytochemicals can be found in neem fruit, seeds, leaves, stems, and bark; some of these compounds were initially found in azadirachta seed extracts, such as azadirachtin, which was first used as an insecticide and antifeedant in the 1960s. 5 g of azadirachtin are produced when 2 kg of seeds are crushed. The seed oil contains glycerides, various polyphenols, nimbolide, triterpenes, and beta-sitosterol in addition to azadirachtin and related limonoids. Uses

Typical medical care Neem tree products have been utilized in Indian traditional medicine for many years, but there isn’t enough clinical proof to support their potential medical advantages. Safety concerns If eaten in any quantity, neem oil has the potential to result in various types of toxic encephalopathy and ophthalmopathy.
