The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival is regarded as one of Oregon’s top springtime attractions because it features 40 acres of tulips as well as more than 200 acres of outdoor space and events.

Where are the tulip fields?
The Noordoostpolder in the Flevoland province is where the majority of tulip farms are found in The Netherlands. Another wonderful place to see these lovely flowers is in the flower bulb fields along the coast from The Hague and Leiden up to Alkmaar in the north. The largest flower show in the world, the Keukenhof, is only 15 minutes from Leiden and 30 minutes from Amsterdam. It is known for its abundance of tulips. The largest flower auction in the world, FloraHolland, is at Aalsmeer, which is only 30 minutes by vehicle from Amsterdam.
Do you have access to tulip fields?
If you happen to be in Holland during tulip season, you must visit the renowned tulip fields near Amsterdam. You can actually feel spring coming on thanks to the lovely colors and scents. You will view the tulips and flower meadows at their peak with these sightseeing tours. Near the Bollenstreek’s Keukenhof Gardens, all tourist trips begin (flower region).

Where in Holland is the tulip garden?
The Keukenhof Gardens are easily accessible by vehicle. The floral garden may be accessed by automobile from the cities of Amsterdam, Haarlem, Leiden, and The Hague in less than 30 minutes.

The greatest time to visit tulip fields in the Portland, Oregon area is during the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival. The event is hosted every year at the 40-acre tulip farm known as Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, Oregon. The Wooden Shoe Farm is a fantastic location for viewing tulip fields in the spring and is well worth the trek from Portland!
I made sure I didn’t miss the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival since we were unable to travel to the Netherlands the previous spring. (Can you blame us for choosing Paris over Amsterdam?) But as a result, I was quite eager to see some tulips! I mean, how could you not, especially after learning (later) during your visit to Amsterdam that the Dutch Golden Age’s economic collapse was caused by tulip bulbs.
Fun Fact: Tulips were originally from central Asia but didn’t find popularity until they reached the Netherlands.
On my subsequent trip to Portland, I made sure to stop by the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival! It’s a fantastic stop if you’re heading to Portland on the weekend (or for a few days), and it’s especially ideal for a half-day or day excursion from Portland, as you’ll learn in this post.

Can’t afford a flight this spring to Europe? In upstate Washington, stroll through acres of red, pink, yellow, purple, and orange tulips at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The event is enormous, with more than 350 acres of tulips, and the valley, which is roughly an hour north of Seattle’s downtown, features the continent’s largest tulip fields.

As the timing of the celebration is also dependent on the weather, the valley celebrates the flower throughout the entire month of April and updates their website with bloom status updates for visitors making travel plans. Going this week will allow you to see both the final daffodil fields and the renowned tulips.
To view the official tulip paths across the valley, download the festival map from the website or obtain one from the Mount Vernon tulip office. Parking is not available in most of the fields, however Tulip Town and Roozen Garden, the festival’s two main gardens, both offer free parking. Explore more than 80 different tulip varietals in a variety of hues. Verge points out that tulip colors vary from year to year based on consumer color trends. “Because reds and pinks are currently in style, you’ll see a lot of them.
Additionally, you can browse for fresh cuttings and various bulbs to bring home.”
According to Verge, the cut flowers for sale are plucked straight from the fields. “They are actually about as fresh as they get for you.
Bulbs cannot be brought across the US border, therefore Canadians going to visit or roadtrippers taking advantage of the festival’s close proximity to Vancouver should be aware of this. “Flowers are acceptable, we always say. Verge claims that dirt isn’t. Fresh clippings are acceptable to take, though, if all you want is a bouquet.
Tulip Adventures
Beyond the gardens, there are so many things to do that you could spend the whole weekend here. Helicopter rides offer a bird’s eye view of the festival. Alternately, enjoy the view while running a 5K or two miles in a fun run. The festival’s trips through tulip country, which include a centenary ride, are fantastic for bikers.
Verge continues, “There really is something for everyone. The festival’s juried art show, which is taking place in Mount Vernon’s downtown, is the main attraction this weekend. While you shop from more than 150 Pacific Northwest producers and artists, live music will be playing.
Tulip Towns
If there’s one thing Skagit Valley has just as much as tulips, it’s booze. Spend some time visiting the area’s wineries, distilleries, and breweries. Great places to stop for an afternoon of sipping are downtown Mount Vernon and beachfront La Conner. Visit La Conner Brewing Company or Skagit River Brewing Company to sample some regional beer. If you want a Skagit Side Car, go to Valley Shine Distillery. Alternatively, go to the large red barn at Tulip Valley Winery for outstanding wine or cider (this is apple-centric Washington after all). Visit the Hillcrest Park Lodge if you’re hungry. For the occasion, the local Kiwanis club installs a restaurant where they serve succulent wild salmon BBQ. All earnings are donated to the neighborhood.

When are tulips in Holland, Michigan, blooming?
The park opens at 9 am and is open until 7 pm during Tulip Time, with tickets being sold until 6 pm. Only visitors who have purchased admission by 6pm will be permitted in, so please plan ahead. Due to the high volume of visitors on the weekends, there may be lineups to park in our lot and pay for entrance. Entry inside the park is not guaranteed without paying for admission. The remainder of our season, from April 18 to October 2, is from 9:30 am to 6 pm, with tickets being offered until 5 pm.
Our park is highly busy during Tulip Time, so to ensure access, we recommend going during the week or outside of Tulip Time. Tulips typically blossom both before and after the festival. Tulip Time weekends are particularly crowded, and our parking lot will be full. Weekdays are typically a little less hectic.
Our tulips typically start blooming in late April and continue until mid-May, however it is too early to determine when they will reach their peak. Instead of all blossoming at once, our tulips flow into color because to their variety.

Yes, we have a parking lot for 250 cars. Our causeway blocks incoming traffic when it is full until space becomes available. There is additional free parking in Downtown Holland, including a building on 7th Street between Columbia and College Avenues (just past our entrance on the right). It is a short distance from there to our ticket booth.
We are collaborating with Zeeland Public Schools to offer a FREE shuttle service on our causeway from 10 am to 7 pm on the Saturdays and Sundays of Tulip Time (May 7/8 & 14/15). Visitors won’t have to walk the entire two and a half miles to our entry location because a bus will pick them up at the top of our causeway (behind Freedom Village and the bus/train terminal). After their tour, it will take visitors back to the causeway’s top. In order to prevent congestion and harmful conditions on our causeway, we advise walkers to use this bus. Please be aware that only guests parked in the downtown area are eligible for this service (NOT our parking lot.)
Although we don’t presently sell advance tickets, visitors can buy a membership online HERE, which grants free access to our website as well as free or discounted access to dozens of other American Horticultural Society reciprocal gardens across the US and Canada. Please give your membership card two weeks to arrive. Keep in mind that there can still be queues to enter the park and the parking lot. We are unable to promise entry to the park during peak hours due to visitor quantity restrictions.
All of our structures and attractions are currently open, including:
tours of “De Zwaan” windmills. Visitors are welcome to have a socially disengaged, self-guided tour of the mill. To prevent crowding, a certain number of visitors are only permitted at once, and some locations have restrictions.
Tulips and a variety of other flowers and plants can be found in our lovely gardens and grounds.
All day long, ‘The Four Columns’ Amsterdam Street Organ will be played.
To ensure sufficient social distance, the Welkom Movie and Virtual Windmill Tour was relocated to Celebration Pavilion.
We will keep an eye on state health regulations to see if any adjustments are required.
There are only a few food alternatives available to us, including weekday food wagons and snacks from our gift shop. Boxed lunches will be offered in our pavilion every day on the weekends. Check out the many eateries and specialty festival vendors in the downtown area for delicious culinary selections.
We will abide by all regional, national, and local regulations that tell us how to operate and maintain our attractions.
Shared surfaces will be cleaned during the day by staff, with a complete cleaning done every evening and as needed. The park will have hand sanitizer available for both visitors and employees to use.
We kindly request that anyone who has COVID-19, has had contact with someone who has COVID-19 within the last two weeks, or is displaying any COVID-19 symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of sense of taste or smell) avoid going to our park at this time.
