Your contributions will help fund crucial research into the causes and treatments of all types of cancer in addition to a wide range of support services, education and awareness programs, and other initiatives.

What makes it Daffodil Day?
The term “cancer” refers to a collection of connected disorders in which the body’s cells begin to divide out of control, harming nearby tissue as they do so. Almost every region of the body can develop cancer. Tumors are growths that can occur when cells continue to divide unchecked. Malignant tumors, or those that invade surrounding tissue, are dangerous because they interfere with organs’ regular operations. Everyone needs to be informed of the possible hazards and preventive measures because nearly four in ten people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives.
In 1956, volunteers gave away the brilliantly colored flowers to spread awareness and the Canadian Cancer Society began using them as a symbol at its events. “Daffodil Days became a popular fundraiser, with volunteers selling daffodils to generate money for cancer research. Since then, a number of groups have made the daffodil their emblem, including the American Cancer Society. Daffodil Days give advocates a chance to raise awareness about cancer and encourage people to have longer, healthier lives.
The American Cancer Society conducted Daffodil Days in February of 2021, at which time anyone could buy bouquets of daffodils for their own use or as presents for cancer patients in hospitals and treatment facilities. End of March saw the delivery of the flowers. The American Cancer Society aims to educate cancer patients, support research that leads to the creation of treatments and procedures that save lives, promote laws that increase access to care, and advocate for cancer patients and their families in a variety of other ways.

This year, Daffodil Day will take place on Friday, August 26, 2022, and is a chance to increase cancer awareness in New Zealand.

What purposes does Daffodil Day serve to fund?
Since 1990, Daffodil Day has motivated individuals to band together in support of the Cancer Society’s mission and to spread cancer awareness throughout New Zealand. Every dollar raised through Daffodil Day helps support cancer treatment for patients and their families, programs to raise awareness of the disease, and vital cancer research.
The originator of Daffodil Day?
The Society, which offers information on cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and support, has developed into Ireland’s leading national cancer charity since 1963.
Due to the Canadian effort, Prof. Darragh organized the first Daffodil Day in Ireland in 1988. Since then, Daffodil Day has been conducted annually and contributes significantly to the funding needed by the Society to fulfill its objective.
How is Daffodil Day observed?
Daffodil Day can be supported by companies, schools, and the entire community. Activities range from morning teas and wear yellow days to skydiving and daring new hairstyles. By doing so, you’ll raise money while assisting the Cancer Society in its efforts.
When was the first Daffodil Day?
The annual Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society’s biggest single fundraising event. Twenty percent of all income comes from it. [7] Professor Austin Daragh, president of the Irish Cancer Society, and Tom Hudson, CEO, organized the country’s first Daffodil Day in 1988. [8] From 1984 to 1987, Charles Cully served as the Society’s president. He was motivated by Canadian Daffodil Day. Since then, Daffodil Day has been celebrated annually in Ireland and has grown to be a significant occasion. [9] About 4 million euros were collected in 2008. In 2001, the daffodil was adopted as the Irish Cancer Society’s logo, and it has since been adopted by the Canadian Cancer Society. Daffodil Days are now observed in the US, Australia, and other nations, effectively making it a global emblem for cancer. It all began in 1957 when a Canadian volunteer by the name of Fran Shannon began selling daffodils to raise money for the CCS. [10]

Everybody will not have to experience cancer alone thanks to the money raised on Daffodil Day, which will also be used to fund critical cancer support services for patients and their families.
What day in 2022 is Daffodil Day?
Come celebrate Daffodil Day 2022 with us on Friday, January 28 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm as we reclaim the day from cancer! You’ll learn about the difference you continue to make in the lives of cancer patients and their families throughout Ireland at this year’s virtual launch.
What does it mean to wear a yellow daffodil?
To support the Great Daffodil Appeal, people display these daffodil pins and badges. The money raised by those who wear the yellow flower pin helps Marie Curie fight for a better end of life for all while also providing care for those who are terminally ill.
Which nations observe Daffodil Day?

- The Canadian Cancer Society has sponsored Daffodil Day (Canada) since 1957.
- The American Cancer Society has been running a similar campaign since the 1970s.
- Since 1986, the Cancer Council Australia has hosted Daffodil Day in Australia.
Daffodil Month falls in which month?
Daffodil Month, which takes place in April, is a time to raise awareness of cancer and to take action against it. Donate money, wear a daffodil pin all through April, and on Friday, April 27, observe Daffodil Day. To learn more, go to www.fightback.ca.
As of Thursday, April 5th, pins are available at each Accent Inn in British Columbia: Victoria, Vancouver Airport (Richmond), Burnaby, Kelowna, and Kamloops.
The Canadian Cancer Society requests that on Daffodil Day, Canadians pause for a minute to consider the thousands of people who are battling cancer and to commemorate those who have passed away. Against this significant day, they urge Canadians to do some special action for cancer patients or to make a contribution to the war on cancer. For instance:
- Inform a friend or family member who is battling cancer of your thoughts and let them know about the Society’s education and support initiatives.
- Do something special for a cancer patient you know (for example, make a meal, do an errand, babysit).
- Deliver a speech in your neighborhood to help spread the word about the ways Canadians can combat cancer.
