However, Mondo and Michael proved to be a standout team, and even though this was the only challenge in which Mondo finished in the bottom three, he was clear to the judges that it wasn’t because of Michael’s abilities, but rather because of his own design limitations—it was a challenge for resort wear, and Mondo had never been to a resort before.
The help from Mondo was crucial for Michael. He claimed that Mondo “absolutely acknowledged my stitching abilities and expertise.” “He is the most visionary member of the cast, and his skills are unquestionably the most amazing. It truly validated me for me to be matched with him and be able to construct his creation and put it together how he liked. Michael can no longer be the subject of disparaging remarks regarding his sewing ability.”
After that, Michael’s predicament went from being somewhat unpleasant to being different. The designer remarked, “That task took a lot of the pressure off and allowed a lot of the designers to be pleasant to me.
However, their bond goes beyond gratitude. In reference to how the designer handled disclosing his HIV status while appearing on the show, he added, “Mondo is one of the most amazing persons in the world to me.” “I think people can use him as a beautiful example of how life can go on in the face of all kinds of hardships,” he said. “All that unfolded on the show, and everything he’s been through, are moving.”
Michael also needed Mondo’s help because being alone and cut off from his support system hurt because he had grown to rely on his partner, Rich, to keep him grounded. Rich is my guardian, he declared. “He makes sure everyone understands how essential my time is, and he aids me in determining what’s crucial and what’s not, as well as when someone could be attempting to take advantage of me. On occasion, I don’t perceive those things till after they’ve passed.”
They still reside in Palm Springs, where they first met in a bar. He said, “Yum,” as he passed, according to Michael. “I said to my ex, who I was with, “That guy’s totally out of my league.” My ex responded, “Yeah, he is,” He chuckled. “I approached Rich and asked him, “Did you just say “yum” to me?” He responded by affirming.”
