A pleasant spot to watch event will be held in Sumner in conjunction with the Daffodil Festival and Parade. For its first-ever “Street of Eats” event, the city is blocking off the downtown area to traffic and lining it up with 10 food trucks and a beer garden.
Prior to the parade’s arrival at 2:30 p.m., the “Street of Eats” event will begin at 12:00.

This year’s Tacoma portion of the parade, the starting point for its journey to Puyallup, Sumner, and Orting, was rescued by Mayor Victoria Woodards and Tacoma City Council. The Daffodil Festival parade had to apply like every other event seeking city help when the city revised its funding policy last year, whereas in previous years the march was financed automatically. The Daffodil crew, however, missed the deadline for applications, and their event was not on the city’s list of things to fund this year.
The paperwork simply got lost in the shuffle due to dealing with COVID-induced transitions, new employees joining, and other staff going on to new endeavors, according to Morgan Bernardi, a spokesman for the Daffodil Festival.
However, Mayor Woodards made the decision to keep the parade in Tacoma, and Council Members Kiara Daniels and Catherine Ushka joined in by endorsing the motion to donate $20,000 in in-kind services, such as traffic control and law enforcement. The vote to approve the resolution was unanimous.
“The Daffodil Parade’s actual application for funding was one of the things that got lost when we changed our method for awarding money to events this year, according to Woodards. As is always the case when you make changes, occasionally things get lost in the transition. “I brought this up because I wanted to guarantee that Tacoma’s Daffodil Parade will continue to be a long-standing tradition. It has always started in the city of Tacoma, and I want to make sure that it continues to start there for years to come.
“We are very moved by the city of Tacoma’s one-time effort to restore hope in Pierce County by showing that there are still regular celebrations, rituals, and activities we can take part in. We greatly appreciate the success in achieving our goals of fostering a sense of normalcy and community.
Starting in Tacoma at 10:15 a.m., the parade then travels to Puyallup for a start at 12:30 p.m., Sumner at 2:30 p.m., and Orting at 5 p.m.

In other Daffodil news, the Puyallup Tribe has donated money, and Knutsen Farms has given away $1,600 worth of daffodils so that the Daffodil Queen and her entire court of 22 princesses can all ride in one huge, new, and fabulous float this year. The Pierce County Mustang Club had to divide up the Royal Court in the past so they could ride in Mustangs, but this year they’ll be back together in a symbolic unity that fits the concept of the Daffodil Festival “This year, the song Hope Rises has a special significance.
“Regarding the spirit of the topic, Bernardi stated, “We honestly believe it is happening right now. ” We are all united by the belief that better things are on the horizon.
“People are welcome to come dressed in yellow and act as their own daffodil, she said.
The Queen’s Coronation will take place at Silas High School on Sunday, March 27, prior to the main parade day. The event starts at 5 p.m. after doors open at 4:30. It is also going back to in-person. Public admission is free, however reserving a seat in advance at the Daffodil Festival website can assist. There will be a gathering of all 23 Daffodil Princesses, from which one queen will be chosen to oversee the numerous Festival activities all year long. Each princess will be evaluated on her academic performance, public speaking skills, demeanor, friendliness, speech substance, festival awareness, and attitude.
Additionally, the Daffodil Marine Parade is back. This occasion brings to a close the parade season of the Daffodil Festival and is sponsored and organized by the Tacoma Yacht Club. The Daffodil Royalty and numerous other yachts and marine vessels are hosted by the yacht club in a spectacular display that starts at the yacht club close to the Point Defiance ferry terminal and travels along the waterfront to the Thea Foss Waterway in downtown Tacoma.
Remember to attend the Princess Tea on Sunday, May 1 at Laurel Creek Manor in Sumner, located at 7611 166th Ave. E. All little princesses in training are invited to attend this event with their mothers and grandmothers to meet the actual Daffodil Princesses and enjoy dancing, food, favors, and tea.
Bernardi predicted that the Daffodil Festival will submit its financing request to Tacoma City Council on time the following year. The Daffodil Festival complies with the requirements of the city’s new funding procedure, which mandates that event organizers prove their event represents and prioritizes disadvantaged areas, as well as incorporates equality and diversity into its operations.
The Daffodil Festival may not have always been as varied as it is now, but like the daffodil flower itself, the organization has continued to expand from its 1930s-era foundations. When you approach a group of princesses wearing their Daffodil dresses, gloves, and tiaras, it becomes incredibly clear that they represent a rainbow of races and cultures. “We are really attempting to move in an even greater direction of embracing our princesses of color and whatever cultures they may represent and expressing that, Bernardi said. It’s not simply the fact that we have princesses of color. “They may all be dressed in tiaras and yellow skirts, but their individuality stems from their upbringing and tradition, and this deserves to be recognized.

Numerous boats and marine vessels participate in a waterfront procession hosted by the Tacoma Yacht Club (TYC) for the Daffodil Festival Royalty. Through its purpose of enhancing our local communities, the Daffodil Festival has celebrated over 89 years in the wonderful state of Washington, fostering the spirit and growth of Pierce County. On Parade Day, the Grand Floral Street Parade typically passes through Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, and Orting in Pierce County. Since 1934, the Daffodil Parade has passed through our wonderful neighborhood every year with the exception of the years of war (1943, 1944, and 1945), as well as 2020 because of the global pandemic. As part of a collaboration with the Washington State Spring Fair last year, the Daffodil Festival launched its first-ever “stationary parade” to guarantee the security of our neighborhood’s residents and cherished parade participants. On April 9, 2022, we intend to reinstate the customary 4-City Grand Floral Parade.

The army, local companies, civic organizations, and schools all had boats in the inaugural Texas Cavaliers River Parade. The River Parade tradition was established when Texas Cavaliers and the parade sponsors lavishly decorated each float with vivid flowers and eye-catching hues.
The Texas Cavaliers continue to decorate the San Antonio River with the vibrant Fiesta colors 80 years later. Over 250,000 people watch the Texas Cavaliers River Parade every year, and all proceeds are donated to regional children’s organizations by the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation.
