Fungicides can be helpful when used early on, but stronger infections may require the use of horticultural oil or neem oil. You can alternatively make your own solution by combining a gallon (4 L) of water with a tablespoon (15 ml) each of baking soda, horticultural oil (or canola), and liquid dish soap (without bleach). During the summer, mist your peonies every 10 to 14 days. Spraying the solution shouldn’t be done on hot, sunny days, and you should always test it on a tiny section of the plant before applying it to the entire thing.

Do you need to prune back peonies that have powdery mildew?

Use your best judgment if your entire plant is covered in powdery mildew since you can’t remove all of the leaves. The leaves with the most powdery mildew should be removed.

After you’ve clipped your leaves, get rid of the sickly plants. Because the fungus might remain latent throughout the winter and infect your plants again the following year, don’t compost them.
