Aluminum is essential for producing blue flowers. If you want the blues, it has to be in the soil. I’m sorry, but adding crushed soda cans to the mixture won’t work. To allow for absorption by roots, the aluminum must be water soluble.

Our steadfast reds occasionally display slight purple washes, and our blues occasionally take on a light pinkish, rose-colored, or blue hue. Although we haven’t fully figured it out, we believe that our clay soil, rainfall totals, and temperatures at key times all contribute in some way to the shifting of the hues.
