Tips for Growing Sweet Peas:
I’ve learned a few things about cultivating sweet peas over the years, so I thought I’d share some advice I’ve received.
Look for dwarf or short kinds that don’t grow much taller than 2 feet. They are also referred to as bush sweet peas.

As soon as the snow melts in the early spring, many people will sow sweet pea seeds immediately into their gardens, which is a fantastic time because the soil is damp enough to soften the seeds. To increase drainage, if the soil in the bed is clay, it should be treated with at least one third by volume of coarse sand, organic matter, or a coarse grade of perlite.
Avoid placing a bed where it will be submerged in water in a marshy location. Create landscaping beds that slope away from any structures or away from the bed’s center by roughly 2 percent (a 1/4-inch drop per foot of horizontal distance). Determine this throughout the designing stage. Special drains may occasionally need to be installed. To create a drainage channel, drain tiles or septic line tubing can be run the full length of the bed and through the walls at either end. In most cases, one line every 4 to 6 feet is adequate. Another option is to dig a trench in the desired water flow direction (from the bed to a lower elevation), fill the trench with 3 to 4 inches of coarse stone, and then fill the middle of the trench with tiles or perforated tubing made of clay, concrete, or plastic. More coarse stone and eventually dirt are used to fill up the trench. The French drain is a simple narrow tunnel filled with coarse stone that connects a poorly drained area to a lower elevation as an alternative.
Design

Stone, though, can be pricey. More people are using interlocking pavers because they are more convenient to install than mortared stone. Regardless of the edge material you use, it must be sturdy enough to support the growing medium and withstand being run over or nudged by a riding lawn mower.
