Do allium bulbs require stratification in the cold?
If you stratify bulbs, I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Bulb stratification is something I’ve never heard of before. In any case, if the ground isn’t too frozen, I’d suggest planting the crocus right away. If so, place them in a pot with the allium (allium are usually planted in the ground in the spring anyway). In the spring, plant them in the ground while continuing to water them.
Oh, I see now. You’re referring to stratification of seeds, which is the cooling of bulbs. Okay. No. Neither variety needs to be chilled in advance. To prevent them from dying, the main goal right now is to get them into some ground and moisture. The crocus won’t produce blossoms this year, but if they sprout and produce foliage, they’ll be ready for action the following year. This year, the alliums might or might not flower. You want to see the greenery this year, once more.
