This is a fantastic method to get youngsters to participate in Lent! Make a crown of thorns, and your child gets to remove one of the “thorns” every time he or she does a nice deed or makes a sacrifice. By Easter, you should have removed all of the thorns.
The crown of thorns is transformed into something lovely on Easter morning! (You may either fill it with flowers or use it to make an egg nest, like we did.) You can make one of these with your kids in a variety of ways. This is how we did it.
I started by spray painting one of those inexpensive, clear plastic platters from the dollar store purple for Lent. (I did something similar with our Lenten candles on a tin plate.) The bottom of the plastic plate was spray painted, giving it a good finished look on top.
Allow time for drying. You still have some work to perform in the meanwhile. Get a grapevine wreath and some toothpicks from the store. Your wreath is probably black and your toothpicks are light. That’s something I’m going to show you how to correct.
After that, insert the toothpicks and roll them around until they’re completely covered. Allow to drain in a strainer and air dry on paper towels.

To make your own Crown of Thorns you will need:
1.Cut out the center of your paper plates and poke holes in the edge of the ring that remains. Make the holes bigger with your scissors.
2. Roll up pieces of tin foil and thread them through the perforations to make your thorns.
3. Apply paint to your crown and let it dry.

HOW TO:

How many flowers are needed for a flower crown?
