Decorating my classroom is one of the things I miss the most about teaching. Last week, I was ecstatic to visit my mother’s classroom and see all of her adorable monkey decorations. I had a great time playing on her Smartboard and teaching her some new tricks! This year, my oldest daughter begins Kindergarten, and I intend to assist her teacher as much as possible. This year’s Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom theme has been picked by her teacher. So, what goes better with a few palm trees than a few palm trees??? Her kind teacher provided me a link to a pool noodle palm tree, and I got to work on a couple of palm trees for her classroom! It was a very simple project that was a lot of fun! This is how you can make your own palm trees….
- Floral wire, 16 gauge (I bought a package of long wires that had already been cut.)
- First, I used scissors to cut a pool noodle in two. I taped half of a noodle to another full noodle with duct tape.
- Scrunch the paper bags together and slide them onto the pool noodle. Tape the bottom and top of the bag together.
- Take one sheet of tissue paper and lay it flat to construct the palm fronds. Glue a line through the middle of the page. Place the flowery wire piece on the glue line.
- Place another layer of tissue paper on top of the wire and apply another line of adhesive.
How do you make a mini succulent Christmas tree?
- Pre-soak sphagnum moss in a pail of water.
- Fill up gaps with smaller succulents or moss, then finish with a beautiful star on top of the frame.
How many succulents do you need to make a succulent Christmas tree?
To build a 9-inch tree, you’ll need at least 30 succulent clippings. This does not imply that you must purchase 30 plants. From a single plant, you can get up to three cuttings. I purchased a pack of 20 and received approximately 28 cuttings. Then I went around my house, taking cuttings from some of my succulent arrangements.
If you’re looking for something local, Home Depot has some lovely succulents. They’re a tad bigger than the ones I get from the internet. On Amazon, I enjoy looking for flash sales. I got the succulents for these lovely gifts for $1 each when I purchased them!
Clean/dust the dirt off the succulents and separate them from it. Leave as much of the stem as possible. The stems can always be trimmed afterwards. To make the stems simpler to attach, stick a toothpick into the bottom of them. For shorter, thicker stems, this method works nicely.
Are coffee grounds good for Christmas cactus?
Your Christmas cactus will appreciate a cup of coffee just as much as you! Coffee grounds are high in potassium and nitrogen, which the cactus requires to stay healthy. You should not use the grounds right away since damp grounds can mold, so spread them out to dry first.

Thanksgiving cactus, holiday cactus, and crab cactus are all names for the Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera truncata). Do not turn on the lights at night, even if only for a brief time, wherever the plant is put. This violates the required dark cycle. It should be around 61 degrees Fahrenheit. Avoid placing the plant in an area where it will be exposed to cold or hot air drafts.
It’s as simple as putting the Christmas cactus on the window sill in a chilly room and not turning on the lights. If the plant was in a brightly lit room, the side closest to the window often grows buds, but the plant’s illuminated side does not. If the plant produces flower buds but then loses them, it’s usually due to either too much or too little water or a lack of air humidity. The good news is that if their temperature and light needs are met, Christmas cacti are reasonably straightforward to re-bloom.

With good cause, the Christmas cactus may be found all over throughout the holiday season. It’s a blooming succulent that’s easy to care for, has beautiful blossoms, and may survive for up to 100 years if properly cared for! That’s correct! This plant can last for decades, giving your holidays a splash of color for generations. That’s a fairly good return on investment for a plant as simple and low-maintenance as the Christmas cactus!
