Do air plants include fungi?

Allowing your air plants to dry completely is crucial if you intend to place them in a glass terrarium, a wall hanging display, or any other type of enclosure (or in a hole to stand them up). Your plants are less likely to rot if you let the air plants completely dry.

Within an hour or two, your air plants ought to be dry. After they have dried, place them where they will receive a lot of bright, indirect sunlight. They will quickly dry out if you place them in the sunshine. Your air plants often simply require a weekly 30-minute soak in water. In addition to the soak, you might need to spritz them with water once a week if they are in an extremely dry or heated area. If their leaves start to curl, that is a sign that they are becoming too dry. If you observe this happening, give them a nice bath. You can have a plant that appears to be healthy one day, but the next it might come apart totally. Typically, internal decay is at blame. So what steps can you take to stop rot? The most important thing is to not overwater your plants. Most air plants only require weekly, and occasionally even less, watering. Never let your air plant remain on damp moss or submerge it in water for an extended amount of time in a terrarium. Shake off any extra water from your plants’ leaves after watering to prevent rot from occurring in the plants’ roots. Under-watering can also cause air plants to dry up or rot, which is a major problem. There is a widespread misperception that because these creatures are known as “air plants,” they don’t need much, if any, water. Lack of light is one of the most frequent causes of death in air plants. Since the majority of air plants are from tropical regions and some even thrive in more intense sunlight, they don’t thrive in low light environments. You may notice that the color of your air plant is fading and that it frequently becomes floppy or wilts if it isn’t receiving enough light. We advise placing your plants on display in an area that gets indirect light at least 4-6 hours a day. Frequently, you can do this outside, by a window, or even in a light room.

Your air plants’ growth, blossoming, and pup production can all be encouraged with fertilization. However, excessive fertilization will burn your air plants’ leaves and kill the plant. A excellent tip to follow is to water and fertilize your air plants at the same time once a month. And keep in mind that fertilizer is quite effective when used sparingly.

Because they love to reside in an environment with high air circulation, air plants received their name for a reason. A closed-off terrarium may make an air plant look attractive, but this could be fatal for your plant because it won’t be able to “breathe” and will die from a lack of air flow. Inadequate air flow can also lead to rot because it prevents moisture from dissipating in enclosed spaces. Rot and fungus are threats to air plants. Extreme or abrupt temperature changes are not good for tillandsias. Air plants will decay and grow fungus if the relative humidity is rising or if the leaves somehow contain an excessive amount of moisture.

There is always fungus where there is moisture. The leaves will fall off if the air plants are overwatered or are kept in a humid environment for an extended period of time. The leaves might sometimes turn black from too much moisture. The air plant might already have died from rot when this occurs.

In most situations, inadequate ventilation is the cause of fungus. If you keep the air plants in a terrarium, your odds are excellent. The leaves will start to fall off and lose their sheen and freshness. The plant may have fungus if it looks brown or feels mushy.
