Is it advisable to divide my African violet?

Cases 2 and 3
- I started by removing two sets of leaves (6–9) that were brown, yellowish, dead, damaged, or old.
- I next fully cut the teeny leaf stems off of the plant’s primary stem.
- Now prepared for the following phase, the plant. Use a clean fingernail or a sharp knife to carefully scrape the “trunk” or “bare stem” or “neck of the plant stem all the way around and down the length to reveal the inner green tissue layer of the stem.
- New root growth is encouraged by the exposure of this tissue layer along the neck/stem.
- I scraped the neck lightly with my fingernail.
- I simply took out half of the dirt from the mass’s bottom because both of these plants had short necks.
- I also took a small amount of perlite out of the soil mass here.
- Place the plant and root mass back into the pot at this point.
- Since there was enough soil already on the plant and the plant was the perfect height in the pot, I did not add any additional soil to the bottom of the container.
- The plant’s bottom leaves should barely touch or brush the pot’s rim.
- You can take more soil out of the bottom of the root mass if the leaves are too high.
- Place the plant and root mass in the pot after adding more dirt to the bottom if the leaves are sitting too deep in it.
Should I remove my African violet’s dead leaves?

Can you bury an African violet’s stem?

- Step 4: Check for signs of decay while you can still see the inside of the stem. A center with dried powder or a brown pith is a telltale indicator. You might also see leaves that appear to be rotting off at the main stem or discolored, mushy plant tissue. Clean your knife before cutting further on the stem until you are above the rot if any symptoms are evident. The plant has a chance as long as the central leaves are present.
- Step 5Prepare a new pot with a light, porous potting mix in the same size as before. Heavy commercial potting mixtures (even the ones labeled for violets). I advise using a three-part handmade mixture consisting of one part perlite, one part vermiculite, and one part brown sphagnum peat moss (brown is much preferable to black). Alternately, select a high-quality commercial mix and blend it 50/50 with coarse perlite. Drain any extra water that goes through the pot after watering it to completely hydrate the soil.
- Step 6Place the violet’s stem on top of the pot, ensuring that it makes good contact with the potting soil. Set the stem straight down into the ground if that portion is bent. The leaves will soon become flat and straight. Underlying bent stem appears to be the source of
- Step 7Place the plant inside a transparent plastic bag or container and cinch the bag or container shut. Place it somewhere bright, but away from direct sunlight. Fresh roots will have grown and the plant will have new growth in about a month. During this time, you won’t need to water.
- Step 8: To balance the humidity gradually and prevent shock, open the bag or container a little at a time over the course of two days. Enjoy your revitalized plant now!
