1. Drink Water Before Leaving
Succulents require extremely little care compared to other indoor plants. They also don’t require a lot of irrigation because their roots and leaves can retain water. In fact, they can survive for up to 10 days without any water.
Therefore, giving your succulents a nice soak in water before you go should be plenty to keep them healthy while you’re away if you only want to leave them for a week. Before watering, just make sure the soil is fully dry. It’s preferable to avoid watering them at all if possible.
Give your succulents a nice bath in water before you leave, even if you only intend to leave them for a week.

Even while succulents can tolerate drought, it wouldn’t be a good idea to fully deprive them of water, especially if you’ll be gone for a few weeks.
 
In light of this, we strongly advise installing a self-watering system. You can either purchase one already built, such as a “Cotton/woven string drip system” or “Blumat watering stakes with timer” from Amazon or a nearby retailer, or you can make your own by combining plastic bottles or buckets with “shoelaces” or any other type of woolen string.
Simply set the water-filled plastic bottle or bucket above your plants on a chair or other surface to do this. Put the shoelaces or strings inside the water-filled bucket or plastic bottle. Once finished, insert the other end of the string into the ground about 1 to 1.5 inches.  
To water each plant, add as many strings to the bucket as there are plants.
3. Place plants in a shady location.
Leaving your succulents in direct sunshine can not only make them dry out more quickly, but you also run the chance of them suffering sun damage, especially if you’ll be gone for a month or more.
Better transfer your succulents to a less bright spot before you go in light of this. As this will be sufficient for your succulents to get all the light they need to stay healthy while you’re away and at the same time, prevent the risk of getting any damage caused by the sun, we recommend placing them in a cool, shaded area where they can get at least 3 to 4 hours of indirect or filtered sunlight per day should be great.
4. Increase Interior Temperatures.
Succulents prefer moderate temperatures all year round (between 55 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit). In light of this, we strongly advise bringing your outdoor plants inside, particularly if you’ll be traveling during the winter. Then, set the thermostat to a low setting (about 12C or 53.6F) to assist prolong the watering cycle. Also, remember to adjust your heat or air conditioning as necessary, and place your succulents near an open window or an air vent so they can breathe, especially if you are leaving on vacation in the spring or summer.
Placing the plants close together is an excellent strategy to increase the humidity level around them while you’re away if you intend to leave your succulents throughout the winter and it gets really dry in your home during this time.
How long can you go without watering succulents?
In general, succulents that are grown indoors or outdoors during the cooler months will need less water. They can go without water for one to three months.
Indoor succulents will be less exposed to the weather outside because the soil dries out more quickly outside than it does indoors due to the wind and sunlight.
The soil remains moist for extended periods of time in milder climes, typically fall and winter.

To avoid root rot, it’s crucial to examine the soil before watering indoor succulent plants and to make sure it is completely dry between waterings.
How do I water my succulent plants on my own?
Succulents respond best to the “soak and dry approach” of watering. Fully soak the soil, then let it dry completely before watering it once more. Additionally, make sure the succulents are in a container with a drainage hole and well-draining soil (more on that in a minute).

In general, it is better if water doesn’t reach the leaves of indoor succulents. It can decay if left on a leaf for an extended period of time.
Use a squeeze bottle or a tiny watering can with a nozzle (this one is great) (like the one in this super handy tool kit).
For outdoor succulents, where there is more breeze and the water will dry off more quickly, this is less of a problem.
If at all feasible, simply saturate the soil around your succulents with water. UNTIL the dirt has completely dried from the top of the pot to the bottom, DO NOT water your succulents again.
How will I water my plants during a two-week vacation?
You can give pots with adequate drainage a bath while you’re gone. I guess, sort of.
Put a towel into your sink or bathtub and fill it with a few inches of water to prevent scratching. Leave your potted plants resting in the sink while you are away. The plant will remain hydrated for up to a week thanks to the soil’s ability to draw water to the roots.
Consider the lighting near your sink or bathtub; if your plants require a lot of light, don’t keep them there.
Is overwatering or submerging succulents preferable?

1. Shriveled and Dry Leaves: While some dry leaves are typical for all plants, there should be concern over an increase in drying and shriveling. Therefore, instead of freaking out if you see any dried leaves, keep an eye on them. If the dry, dead leaves continue, it may be necessary to water deeply.
2. Wrinkled & Droopy Ends: The succulent uses even the last drops of water that are stored in the leaves as the water depletion progresses. This causes the leaves to wrinkle, which causes their ends to droop. Dead ends are another factor, followed by the loss of moisture pressure inside the leaves.
3. Browning of the Leaves: Browning of the leaves is another essential sign of a submerged succulent. The soft, brown leaves are crucial for lifting up a thirsty succulent even though they don’t appear until later in the plant’s life.
Succulents should they be spritzed?
Soak the soil around your succulents in water until the drainage holes are full. (Use less water if your container lacks drainage holes.) Don’t water your succulents using a spray bottle. Brittle roots and moldy leaves can result from misting. Additionally, you can submerge pots in a pan of water and let the water drain out the drainage hole. Remove from the pan as soon as the soil’s top is damp.
Leaves falling off

Lack of nutrients

Because they are not heavy feeders, cacti and succulents don’t need a lot of fertilizer. Reduce the recommended fertilizer dosage to 50% from what is stated on the container. During the growing season, feeding once every two weeks should be plenty.
Watering Issues
Underwatering is the primary cause of withered leaves. The plant probably needs water if the leaves start to look withered and shriveled, which usually happens to the upper leaves of the plant first. If you have been lightly watering your plant and you see that the leaves are beginning to shrink, you likely have an underwatering issue that is readily fixed.

Solution: Water less frequently and be sure to let the soil dry out between applications if you suspect overwatering. Before rewatering, the top inch of the soil must feel dry. Repot the plant in a well-draining potting soil if it is in the incorrect potting mix.
Before transplanting and watering the plant once again after repotting, let it dry out for a few days to give the plant time to recuperate and mend from overwatering. Brown Leaves or Dark Spots on Leaves
Sunburn or sun damage is the most frequent cause of brown or black blotches on the foliage of your succulents. Dead Lower Leaves
As the plant grows and develops new leaves from its core, the lower leaves inevitably wither and die. Dead leaves either fall off on their own or are readily plucked off.
To prevent insects and bugs from hiding in the soil, remove any dead leaves off the plant or pick up any dead leaves that have fallen into the ground.
Stems Stretching Out
If the plant doesn’t get enough light, the stems will sag or the entire plant will begin to etiolate. A plant’s natural response to darkness is called étiolation.
The plant’s stem and overall shape are extending towards the direction of the light source. The stem may appear to be extending, and the spacing between the leaves may appear to be widening. When in this condition, the plant’s growth is prone to being stunted.
Solution: Move your plant to a more sunny area. The greatest sunshine will enter a room through a south or east facing window. If you’re transferring your plant to an area with more sunlight, do so gradually to prevent sun damage.
Avoid any abrupt alterations that could startle your plant. For instance, avoid transferring the plant from a low-light environment indoors to direct sunlight outdoors right quickly. Increase the plant’s exposure to sunshine gradually in both quantity and quality.
A grow light is an excellent choice to provide more light for those inside regions that are difficult to access if you are unable to supply more sunlight for your indoor succulents. If you move your plant to a new area, use a grow light, or make any other changes, pay attention to how it responds. Adapt and modify as necessary.
