On weekdays, early morning and late afternoon are the least crowded times. The weekend is busy. Booking a Lodging Option in Skagit Valley and passing by the fields in the early morning or late afternoon will give you the finest experience.
A: Every year, from April 1 to 30, the Tulip Festival is celebrated. However, when the tulips blossom is decided by mother nature. Tulips can bloom in the last week of March in some years and the second week of April in other years. Additionally, there are tulip variants that bloom sooner and later. A: Can we ride our bikes on the fields, and are there any bike trails nearby?
Yes! Nearly every road has a shoulder to ride on and is beautiful and flat among the tulip fields. For routes, consult the Skagit County Bike Map.
A: The roads leading up to the fields will have signage prohibiting parking. Please use a parking area for safety reasons.
A: Dogs and other animals are not permitted in the fields or show gardens. The newest Tulip Garden is an exception. Dogs on leashes that behave nicely are welcome in Garden Rosalyn.
A: From Seattle, take I-5 North, and from Vancouver, BC, take I-5 South. Use the Tulip Festival map to choose your exit based on where you want to go and which fields you want to see. From I-5, you will be traveling west.

Can we re-enter the border with cut flowers? How about lightbulbs?
A: You are welcome to place cut tulip flowers along the border. However, because they are in the ground, bulbs cannot be purchased during the tulip festival, but they can be delivered to Canada in the fall.
What are Show Gardens, exactly? A: You really must go to both RoozenGaarde and Tulip Town! The grounds have more than a million spring bulbs planted. Both have an admission fee; however, Tulip Town tickets cannot be used at RoozenGaarde and vice versa. The gardens are off-limits to pets.
Since the early 1900s, tulips from the Skagit Valley have been grown here. Currently, the Washington Bulb Co., Inc/RoozenGaarde grows “field tulips.” The timing of the field tulips’ blooming is dependent on the weather in April. Visit our Facebook sites, phone the Tulip Festival office at 360.428.5959, or the BLOOM MAP to check on the status of the bloom. You will require a fresh map every year because tulip crops rotate.
A: The two gardens, RoozenGaarde and Tulip Town, offer free parking. Bradshaw Road has parking for Tulip Town. Beaver Marsh Road’s RoozenGaarde. On busy days, both feature overflow parking; flaggers will direct you. A few of the tulip fields are serviced by official, paid parking run by RoozenGaarde. Your official pay lot ticket stub is good for one entry to RoozenGaarde, and parking in designated lots is included with paid RoozenGaarde admission (display your ticket stub). Parking and admission must take place on the same day. Please take note that lots near the fields may close if it rains too much.
Some landowners impose parking fees. You cannot purchase entrance or additional parking with the money you pay.
Can I bring my drone to the festival of tulips? A: No, drones are not permitted in the fields or gardens.

Do I have to give RoozenGaarde credit if I publish images of the exhibition fields or garden? Yes, please sign and send the Tulip Festival Photo Release Form to the Roozengaarde (Washington Bulb Co.) office.

Part of me mourned that I was even further away from the Dutch tulip fields when I relocated to the Pacific Northwest from London. Imagine my astonishment when I discovered that the Skagit Valley’s fields bloom into a technicolor tulip quilt every April, 90 minutes north of Seattle.
The Skagit Valley, one of Washington’s top tulip-producing regions, has a distinctive microclimate similar to that of Woodinville, where wine is made. Some of the most stunning tulip displays you will find in the United States are cultivated thanks to a temperate environment, mild winters, and enough of rain.
You’re not the only one who wants to go to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. As you might anticipate, this well-known flower festival frequently draws large people in 2022, but things will work a little differently this year. Are tickets required for the Holland Michigan Tulip Festival?
The festival is held where? The Tulip Time Festival does not take place in a single, guarded area. The majority of the events and activities take place within a 4-mile radius of Downtown Holland over the course of 8 days in May. Public parks and the streets in the city’s center are free places to admire tulips.
No tickets are required to visit Holland, explore the area, or take in the sights. Even though the specific Tulip Time activities and events are over for 2022, there are still plenty of other things to do and see nearby.
Throughout the festival week and beyond, there are tulips and events at a lot of independent sites. Their own set of operation hours and admission conditions apply. Visit the Area Attractions page to learn more.

Where can I go for free to observe tulips?
Here are some more free tulip fields in the Netherlands for you to enjoy if you’re looking for more locations to take advantage of the tulip bounty.
Tulips in Amsterdam
It’s likely that if you’re visiting the Netherlands for the first time, you’ll end up in Amsterdam.
The city does grow tulips in designated areas in honor of its annual tulip festival, which is held during the entire month of April, even if there aren’t any enormous, “far as the eye can see fields of tulips running through the city (one could hope, right?).
With over 80 participating venues, your chances of finding a display or two are good, but you can get a complete list on the festival’s website by clicking here.

PS: The renowned Bloemenmarkt (Flower Market) is another great place to get your fill of tulips, however I must admit that I don’t particularly enjoy how touristy it is.
Cycling the The Flower Strip
The Flower Strip, a funny name they’ve given the highway from Haarlem to Leiden, is another option to enjoy free tulip fields in the Netherlands.
There are signposted routes that, according to what I’ve heard, are fairly foolproof that take you past all the vibrant tulip fields you’ve always imagined over this 35 kilometer stretch of level terrain.
Many choose to take this trip beginning in Haarlem, which is about 20 minutes by rail from Amsterdam, while taking the route only in part is also an option (see below).
The free tulip fields around Keukenhof and Lisse
Here’s another lazy option if you don’t feel like cycling the full Flower Strip.
There are many stunning, vast tulip fields nearby Keukenhof that are free for you to admire. You can take public transportation to Keukenhof, rent bikes there, and then set off on one of the four clearly indicated cycling paths to see various fields.
Remember not to cycle through the fields destroying everything in your path if you lose all sense of reason. Respect the boundaries, refrain from trespassing, and exercise caution when taking pictures.
Free Tulip Fields in Kop van Noord-Holland
The location of the largest flower bulb field in the world and where many residents allegedly choose to go tulip hunting on their own.
This beautiful region, which can be reached by train from Amsterdam and is located north of the city, is home to beaches, cute tiny towns (like everywhere else in the Netherlands), and lots of flowers.
Can you navigate the tulip festival on foot?
No matter how many times you check the weather, it is constantly changing here. So much so that I now routinely wear a raincoat instead of my usual coat and my buddies only check it 10 minutes before we go. Regardless of how much sunshine Buienradar.nl promises you, prepare for the weather and expect to be rained on.
The tulip blooming season normally lasts from late March through early May. Tulips are more likely to be in bloom around April, though it depends on the year. For those making advance plans, there are many websites that will provide updates in February and March regarding the season’s predicted blooms.
You can choose to simply take in the images OR zoom in to a specific area to determine where you need to go. There isn’t ONE specific place, and not ALL of the fields are accessible, but it should give you a general notion of where to go.
Farmers that sell these tulips on the open market own all of these fields privately. Signs forbidding entry to the fields have begun appearing more frequently as individuals ruin their tulips by snapping pictures. Avoid picking the tulips! Please obey the instructions so that you don’t step on any tulips, which are the farmers’ source of income! Don’t mess this up for the others.
Similar to how drones are not permitted on private property in the Netherlands without permission, you cannot fly a drone over tulip fields without the farmers’ consent. Due to the close proximity to airports and helipads, flying a drone is prohibited in various areas of the Netherlands.
Skagit Tulip Festival is uncharged?
General Admission tickets to RoozenGaarde are available for $15 per person, with kids under 2 free. Access to the 5-acre RoozenGaarde garden, a 25-acre tulip field, and a 20-acre daffodil field are all included with General Admission tickets. Both the Fresh Cut Tulp Market and the RoozenGaarde Gift Shop will be accessible. During the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, the gift shop is open from 9 to 7, and RoozenGaarde shuts 10 minutes after dusk.
How much does a trip to Tulip Town cost?
There are many tulip gardens to visit, and they are all roughly the same price. A family pass is $30 and costs roughly $8 per person, if my memory serves me well. That didn’t cover all the gardens as I imagined it would. Be advised that each garden you visit has a different entrance price.
You can pull over to the side of the road and take pictures in the tulip fields if you drive around the area.
When you park your car, there is a cost to explore the farms and activities. With two adults and one child, I spent roughly $20 on parking.
There were several right responses. The two sizable farms, Roozengaarde and Tulip Town, I believe charge an entrance fee of around $10 each. You can stroll among their fields and display gardens. You can drive by fields and pull over to take pictures along the way. These come free of charge.
