Actions to take:
1. Cut a 2 1/2-foot length of jute, then glue the ends together to form a loop.
2. Attach the loop to the Styrofoam ball using hot glue.
3. Remove the stalks and petals from the hydrangea bouquet, leaving a bloom with a tiny hole in the middle.
4. Insert a pearl pin into the Styrofoam ball by slipping it through the hole.
5. Keep doing this until the surface is completely covered in blossoms.
What’s the composition of kissing balls?
The evergreen branches of ivy, holly, and pine are tied together with twine to create kissing balls, also known as Christmas kissing balls. Traditionally, the center of the ball contained a figurine of the young Jesus. Then, in order to bring blessings and good news to everyone who went underneath, these “holy boughs were strung from entryways and doorways throughout the home.
Supplies needed:
- Styrofoam ball size 4 or greater
- at least 35 silk flowers
- wooden skewer
- Ribbon
- Glue gun
Make a hole in each side of the styrofoam ball using the bamboo skewer. The ribbon will be inserted into these holes to hang the finished kissing ball.
Directions:
The bamboo skewer should be gently inserted into the top of the ball, exiting out the other side.
After taking out the skewer, use it to insert a ribbon through the holes you just created. Leave enough ribbon after cutting it to hang it when you’re done. Note: You may also make the holes without the wooden skewer by using a knitting needle.
Next, remove the entire bouquet of silk flowers from their plastic stems, only keeping the flower itself. To cover a 4 inch ball, you will need at least 35 blossoms; if you are building a larger ball, you may need more.
To make a small hole in the styrofoam ball, insert the end of the first flower into the ball. After adding a small amount of hot glue to the hole, insert the flower’s base. Glue flowers onto the ball until it is completely covered.

Start by attaching one piece of the ribbon to the ball’s border with hot glue. Make a bow with the extra ribbon at the top of the ornament after tying the two ends of the ribbon together. Attach the second piece of ribbon to the ball’s opposite side with glue. Make a tie at the top, leaving the ends untied so you can hang it.
