Sedum, often known as mossy stonecrop, can be challenging to get rid of from lawns.
A tiny, fleshy plant typically grown in attractive beds that spreads to lawns is known as mossy stonecrop, also known by its scientific name Sedum acre. Once established in lawns, it can be exceedingly challenging to eradicate since it could displace attractive turfgrasses and turn into a significant weed.
In sandy soils with limited fertility, mossy stonecrop can grow dense mats. Due to the waxy cuticle, which restricts herbicide absorption, controlling mossy stonecrop with broadleaf herbicides is exceedingly challenging. Although common broadleaf herbicides like those containing mixtures of 2,4-D, dicamba, MCPP, MCPA, or triclopyr may be successful, it is likely that numerous treatments will be necessary. The application of a herbicide will be much more effective if a surfactant (spreader/sticker agents) is used to help the herbicide get past the waxy cuticle.
Trampling mossy stonecrop to break down the cuticle before applying a herbicide may increase control in place of using a surfactant. You could also use a non-selective herbicide, but be aware that it will also harm the turf.

A weed, is carpet sedum?
Sedums are fantastic drought-tolerant succulent plants that spread like weeds and require little care. Sedum lawns are only limited by their incapacity to withstand high foot traffic. Although the leaves and stems are delicate and readily fall off, they will make a lovely textured groundcover in locations that are not often trafficked.
Sedum does really grow quickly, requires little maintenance, has few pest and disease problems, and has excellent drought tolerance. Growing sedum lawns would appear to be the ideal replacement for conventional nitrogen-sucking, high maintenance turf grass in theory. Sedum comes in low-growing types that work well as groundcover but have an unfavorable effect in regions with high traffic. Your sedum lawn alternative may end up looking like a war zone, with broken plants, stems, and leaves strewn about. This is because the stems snap readily.
In a sedum lawn, birds and rodents can also become an issue. Because they can’t tolerate the intense light in desert regions, plants need a protected environment to grow as well as they can. Sedum is a resilient plant that does well in dry, sandy soil with little to no moisture.
Sedum Sarmentosum: Is it a weed?
Sedum sarmentosum, often known as stringy stonecrop sedum, is a perennial plant with tiny, fleshy leaves that grows slowly and mats or trails. Stringy stonecrop remains green all year long in warm regions. Fast-growing and thriving in borders, this plant is also known as graveyard moss, star sedum, or gold moss. Exists a weed that resembles a succulent?
Is it a delicious delicacy or a weed? Purslane is simultaneously cursed and curried. The majority of us view it as an unwanted guest. Portulaca oleracea, also known as purslane, is most likely currently in your garden, but not because you invited it to dinner.

An annual, purslane grows from seeds and stem fragments. Purslane seeds have been observed to remain viable in the ground for 40 years. That fact could be exhilarating or upsetting to you.
The most important piece of advice for controlling purslane is to prevent it from going to seed. The flowers and seeds will begin to appear about three weeks after you first see seedlings. Additionally, plants or plant fragments that have been uprooted but left in the ground can regrow their roots. Depressing or exhilarating once more. Purslane can be found growing almost anywhere, from rich garden soil to the driest, poorest soils. For purslane, a rock driveway is paradise. How can I remove sedum?
I live in a partially filled stone quarry and most of the sides and rear of my land are surrounded by a high ledge that resembles a park.
I grew peperomia ground cover a lot of years ago to hide some ugly stone and hard earth patches. It is currently spreading and attempting to take over everything. I used to control it with Roundup, but it doesn’t appear to be working anymore. The best technique to get rid of it where it isn’t needed was something I was thinking. I would never have planted it if I had known how invasive it is.

The group of perennial plants known as peperomia is evergreen, grows in a rosette or in an upright position, and occasionally has trailing stems. Around the world, tropical or subtropical settings support the growth of these occasionally succulent plants.
In Ohio, peperomia plants are more frequently cultivated as indoor houseplants or as outdoor ornamental plants that must spend the winter indoors. If your ground cover plants are actually peperomia, I would be pleasantly pleased because they are unlikely to survive the harsh winters in northeast Ohio.
In Ohio, there are several hardy groundcovers that resemble peperomia. Some Sedum species, commonly referred to as Stonecrop, have trailing stems, succulent leaves, and are winter-hardy in Ohio. Sedum cauticola ‘Lidakense’, Sedum kamtschaticum, Sedum rupestre ‘Angelina,’ Sedum sieboldii, Sedum spurium ‘Fulda Glow,’ and Sedum ternatum ‘Larinem Park’ are a few varieties of Stonecrop that demonstrate ground cover features.
In order to totally eradicate Sedum, peperomia, or any other ground cover, it is essential to either remove the plant’s roots and all or kill it using a mechanical or chemical method.
The effectiveness of the many herbicides on the retail market varies. Plants can be entirely and swiftly eliminated by some products. Others necessitate multiple treatments to entirely eliminate the plant. No matter which herbicide you use, make sure to carefully read and adhere to all label instructions. Any chemical treatment should be treated with caution because it is toxic and harmful.
Some people claim to have success removing weeds and undesirable plants using natural and homemade solutions. For getting rid of troublesome plants, a short Internet search will turn up a ton of chemical and natural solutions as well as some DIY recipes.
You can treat the plants without using chemicals by covering them with newspaper, cardboard, plastic, or landscape fabric. By covering the plants with a dark-colored material, you inhibit photosynthesis because there is less sunlight, you raise heat because there is less airflow underneath the cloth, and you prevent water from getting to the roots of the plants, particularly if you use plastic sheeting.
The plants will experience extreme stress as a result of all of these factors, which will finally result in their death.
Calculate how much material is required to completely cover the plants by measuring the area where they are growing. On windy days, consider securing the material to the ground to prevent it from blowing off the plants. In particular, cardboard, weed-blocking fabric, or landscape cloth work well with sod pins.

Can carpet weed be eaten?
A peculiar weed known as carpetweed quickly grows across the ground to form a prostrate mat. The carpetweed family, or Mollugo verticillata, is a subfamily of tropical and subtropical herbaceous plants and dwarf shrubs with fleshy or succulent leaves that are mostly found in southern Africa. This species’ ancestry is unknown, however it may have originated in tropical America. Regardless, it has been naturalized in most of North America, including all of Wisconsin’s counties. It is also known as green carpetweed, Indian chickweed, whorled chickweed, and devil’s grip. Because it thrives in sunny, disturbed places, it is typically found in tilled gardens, recently planted lawns, along roadsides, and beside railroads. Although commonly found in sandy, arid locations, it may also grow in damp soils. Being shaded out by taller plants makes it difficult for it to compete.
This summer annual sprouts late in the spring after the ground has warmed, develops swiftly, and eventually forms a circular mat that can grow up to two feet across and spread out in all directions from a core taproot with few branches. The plant rarely grows higher than 5 inches from the ground, making a mat.
Smooth green stems that often have a pinkish bulge at the base where they join the axis branch at nodes where the leaves are also created. Between the nodes, there are comparatively long internodes.
At each node, there are flat whorls of three to eight sessile, long, and slender leaves. Each dull green leaf is up to 11/2 inches long, 1/4 inches broad, smooth and hairless, with whole margins. The shape of a leaf can range from linear to elliptic to obovate to oblanceolate to widely spatulate, and it can also have a rounded or pointy tip. Cooking the foliage is said to make it palatable.
Midway through the summer, plants start to bloom, and they keep doing so for about two months, until early September. The axillary clusters of 2 to 5 blooms on long stalks, which are formed in the axils of the leaves, are little, star-shaped flowers. Each bloom is 1/8 to 1/4 inch diameter and contains five sepals that resemble petals (but true petals are either very small or absent). The sepals have a white to greenish-white outer surface and a green underside, frequently with vertical pale green lines. Three to five white stamens surround the core green ovary, which has a tripartite structure. Small flies, bees, and other insects might visit the flowers.
After flowers, three-valved, egg-shaped fruit capsules with thin walls and up to 35 small seeds each are produced. When mature, the dry fruit cracks open. The glossy, kidney-bean-shaped (reniform), orange-red to reddish-brown seeds have 5 to 8 parallel, curved dark brown ridges along the sides. The plants quickly reproduce and frequently form colonies. The seeds will be eaten by tiny mammals and birds. It can only reproduce from seeds.
Only the bedstraws (Galium spp., including the native catchweed bedstraw, G. aparine, and the introduced sweet woodruff, G. odorata), sprawling plants with whorled leaves and white flowers, may be mistaken for carpetweed. However, those species typically have hairy rather than smooth leaves and are not as flat to the ground. They also have 4 petals rather than 5.
In small areas of grass or ornamental or vegetable gardens, this weed is simply pulled by hand or hoed out by hand. To avoid seeds setting, try to get rid of plants before they flower.
In gardens, mulching will significantly slow or stop its growth, and regular turf care (enough mowing, fertilization, and watering) will promote a robust grass that will outcompete this plant. If mechanical removal is not an option, herbicides can be applied both pre- and post-emergence.
This plant has peculiar photosynthetic pathway properties that are transitional between the two forms of photosynthesis, which makes it interesting to plant biochemists even though gardeners might not like it (referred to as C3 and C4).
