Do rabbits like Autumn Joy sedum?
The perennial Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ could be just what you’re looking for. From early summer to late autumn, this perennial’s succulent foliage and huge, dramatic flower heads provide color and richness to the yard. It thrives in most soils and is rarely affected by insects or disease, making it a low-maintenance plant. It attracts butterflies. Rabbits, on the other hand, do not. (I’ve read that deer don’t eat greens either, but some deer do.)
The best time to grow ‘Autumn Joy’ in your garden is in the spring, but you can start now. If you do decide to plant in the fall, don’t fertilize. If you don’t put your sedum in the sunniest part of your garden, it will get leggy. Leggy stems are also a result of overfertilization. If the stems appear floppy, pinch them back in June. ‘Autumn Joy’ requires well-drained soil, but will thrive in less-than-ideal conditions.
