In anticipation of the projected increase in donations on Daffodil Day, Annertech was asked to develop a high-volume online donation form. Annertech has previously worked with the Irish Cancer Society on a number of digital projects, most recently a complete redesign of their website.
Due to the pandemic, traditional fundraising efforts for the majority of charities were suspended, leaving internet donation platforms to handle significantly higher traffic volumes. This rise was anticipated to reach its height for the Irish Cancer Society on Daffodil Day, March 26, in response to a special Late Late Show segment devoted to the cause.
It was necessary to plan and put into place a system that could handle surges from the start, doing away with the need to monitor and prepare for sporadic events.
What day in 2022 is Daffodil Day?

Daffodil Day: Is it Irish?
The annual Daffodil Day is the Irish Cancer Society’s biggest single fundraising event. Twenty percent of all income comes from it. In 2001, the daffodil was adopted as the Irish Cancer Society’s logo, and it has since been adopted by the Canadian Cancer Society. Daffodil Days are now observed in the US, Australia, and other nations, effectively making it a global emblem for cancer. It all began in 1957 when a Canadian volunteer by the name of Fran Shannon began selling daffodils to raise money for the CCS. [10]
How should one dress for Daffodil Day?
This Friday, the SRC will host a mufti day. To help two extremely significant charities, students are asked to wear purple or yellow (or both colors) and bring gold coins. Both charity will receive an equal part of the funds raised.
Wearing purple promotes the organization Wear It Purple Day, which works to create conditions that are accepting, safe, and powerful for LGBTQ+ young people.
Wearing yellow encourages people to participate in Daffodil Day, an annual fundraiser for the Cancer Council to promote life-saving cancer research.
A school cap and the proper footwear are necessary. Students can demonstrate their support by donning clothing, accessories, or hair color.
When was the first Daffodil Day?
The Society, which offers information on cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and support, has developed into Ireland’s leading national cancer charity since 1963.
Due to the Canadian effort, Prof. Darragh organized the first Daffodil Day in Ireland in 1988. Since then, Daffodil Day has been conducted annually and contributes significantly to the funding needed by the Society to fulfill its objective.
What amount was raised on Daffodil Day?
For the first Daffodil Day held in person since the Covid-19 pandemic began, a “yellow army” of volunteers will take to the streets on Friday to collect money for the Irish Cancer Society.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the yearly charity event, which involves volunteers selling pins and staging bucket collections across the nation, has not happened since 2019.
Volunteers were “delighted” to see the event get back to normal on Friday, according to Averil Power, chief executive of the Irish Cancer Society.
The charity receives about $4 million from the fundraising event on average, which is used to support cancer patients and fund research.
Many organizations expressed concern about how restrictions would affect their ability to raise money, a critical source of income for the industry, in the early weeks of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Nevertheless, the Irish Cancer Society received more donations in 2017 than ever before. About 3 million of the nearly 7 million dollars raised during Daffodil Day 2021 were given away during a special episode of the RT Late Late Show devoted to the charity’s fundraising efforts.
Cancelled

According to Deirdre Garvey, CEO of The Wheel, the national charity organisation, many larger charities with committed fundraising personnel successfully “weathered the pandemic as a result of the devotion of their supporters and by extending into internet fundraising.”
She claimed that smaller community-based organizations that mainly relied on live events and in-person fundraising had not fared as well.
How are daffodil seeds sown?
Harvesting the seeds, which are tiny and black and can be found inside the pods of daffodil blossoms, is the first step in growing daffodils from seeds. Before removing the pods, let them dry in the flower to make sure the seeds are ready to be harvested. In a pot with light soil, sow the seeds to a depth of about 1/2 inch. Till the seeds sprout, keep the soil wet but not waterlogged.
Consider the amount of sunlight the area receives when deciding where to place your daffodil seedlings. At this stage, the seedlings require at least half a day of direct sunlight to grow healthily. Bulb development from seeds will take several years. To allow the daffodil bulbs the room they need to grow, keep in mind that as they get bigger you will need to dig them up and transplant them.

Daffodil month falls in which month?

The Canadian Cancer Society requests that on Daffodil Day, Canadians pause for a minute to consider the thousands of people who are battling cancer and to commemorate those who have passed away. Against this significant day, they urge Canadians to do some special action for cancer patients or to make a contribution to the war on cancer. For instance:
- Inform a friend or family member who is battling cancer of your thoughts and let them know about the Society’s education and support initiatives.
- Do something special for a cancer patient you know (for example, make a meal, do an errand, babysit).
- Deliver a speech in your neighborhood to help spread the word about the ways Canadians can combat cancer.
