You are aware of Sedona’s renown for its stunning red rocks and spectacular desert vistas. You’ve probably discounted the existence of the enigmatic energy vortexes in this mountain town in Arizona. Perhaps you’ve fantasized about traveling to this picturesque location to stroll trails amidst the breathtaking scenery, or you’ve considered making a stop in Sedona your route to the Grand Canyon.
As you travel north from Phoenix, saguaro cactuses stand watch over patches of desert vegetation with their arms extended or curled in defiance. Three types of cacti can be seen in the landscape: the dreaded jumping cholla, fat circular barrel cactus, and fruit-bearing prickly pear cactus (whose evil needles long to cling to bewildered human and animal skin). This gives place to a more lush environment with evergreen trees scattered throughout and the occasional obstinate cactus. In an impossible blue sky, cotton puff clouds are suspended.
The ground goes from bland to rusty as you ascend a hill and pass through a mountain pass. You finally understand why there is such a fuss. As soon as Cathedral Rock emerges in the horizon, you grab your phone and start taking pictures, ready to post this natural beauty on Facebook or Instagram. The protruding mountains, plateaus, and science fiction rock formations in different shades of orange and red are more reminiscent of an oil painter’s vision than actual landscape.
When you thought the scenery could not possibly get any more beautiful, the sun starts to set. Even though you’ve seen sunsets before, something about them seems more vibrant here in the high desert. Your Crayola boxcarnation pink, burnt umber, sienna, and scarlet crayons ripen the sky with its hues.
A part of you starts to question whether energy vortexes really exist, yet you are buzzing with energy from all this beauty.

Are there saguaro cactus in Sedona?
My first visit in Phoenix coincided with my first encounter with the saguaro cacti that were proliferating wildly in the desert. I was amazed! It was also my first time to Sedona, Arizona; such a spectacular location! There’s a beautiful small cafe in Black Canyon City called Rock Springs Cafe that has the world’s best pies on the route between Phoenix and Sedona. I’m not joking at all! Normally, my kid and I would split one dessert, but I had to have three instead! The cafe is well-known for its delectable pies, but in the back is a wedding site. Oh my, the ceremony site was gorgeous when we arrived just as the sun was setting! I plan to return there one day to capture a wedding while chowing down on mounds of pie!
