Why is the water trickling from my houseplant?
I believe what you are seeing is a process called guttation, in which specialized leaf glands sporadically release water droplets. There are glands in a lot of little plants that can release a clear liquid. Water with a number of other organic and inorganic chemicals make up guttation fluid.
The Latin word gutta, which means droplet, is the source of the English word guttation. Extra leaf moisture typically evaporates through stomata, which are tiny holes in the leaf. This evaporation is accelerated by heat, wind, and dry circumstances. This evaporation slows or stops under cooler, stiller, and more humid conditions.
