Is the euphorbia on the mountain invasive?
Although it doesn’t have flowers, Snow-on-the-Mountain (Euphorbia marginata) is a striking shrub. The flowers are actually extremely little and basic. The plant stands out in its field because of its leaves (and a few bracts that are beneath the flowers).
Snow-on-the-flowers mountain’s lack petals and sepals, just like their relatives who are also members of the spurge family. All of the other white portions are leaves, save for the little spherical white objects that appear to be petals beneath the anthers. Snow-on-the-mountain has mostly green leaves, but as it grows to its top, the colors start to change. The closest leaves to the flowers are frequently almost entirely or entirely white.

Other distinctive characteristics of snow-on-the-mountain plants are their strange flower forms and variegated foliage. A common misconception is that snow-on-the-mountain needs to be eradicated with herbicides or by mowing. While leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula) is closely related to snow-on-the-mountain, it is an annual plant that is opportunistic but not invasive. Because cattle dislike the flavor of it, it is frequently left ungrazed when everything else is chopped off just above the ground. In overgrazed pastures and other areas where the vigor of dominant grasses is reduced, snow-on-the-mountain can thrive, but it competes poorly with those grasses when they are allowed to grow again.
I enjoy seeing snow-on-the-mountain in prairies from time to time since I am aware that if it was able to seed and flourish, other plants (like less “weedy perennials) most likely had the same chance. Snow on the mountain doesn’t last very long, unless it is near water tanks or other locations where frequent livestock impacts or other causes keep grasses under control.
A little bug consumes snow-on-the-mountain pollen, seemingly oblivious to the close, concealed danger (crab spider).
Here is yet more interesting information about this unusual and lovely plant, as if the strange blossoms, variegated leaves, and triple threat photosynthesis method weren’t enough to win you over. Similar to milkweed plants and rubber trees, snow-on-the-mountain and other spurges produce white milky latex in their leaves and stems. The latex isn’t sap; it’s produced via a whole different process and doesn’t go through the plant. It is a protective mechanism that many animals’ skin finds unpleasant and irritated (including humans with latex allergies).
Beautiful natural wildflowers include snow-on-the-mountain. Due to its beauty and relative lack of pests and diseases, it was once more frequently grown as an ornamental (due in part to its toxic latex). Unfortunately, it has acquired an unjustified image as a nasty plant since cattle don’t like to eat it and because it can be abundant (and extremely noticeable) in overgrazed portions of pastures. Snow on the mountain has no desire to rule the globe. It simply prefers to grow where nothing else is already growing, and when the neighbors start being aggressive, it yields graciously.

Euphorbia is it indigenous to North America?
The popular names thyme-leafed spurge and euphorbia serpyllifolia (Euphorbia serpillifolia[note 1]) refer to euphorb species. It is a common component of the flora in many different types of habitats throughout a sizable portion of North America, from Canada to Mexico. This perennial herb either develops into a prostrate mat or assumes a somewhat upright shape. The oblong leaves can grow up to 1.5 cm long, and the edges are coarsely serrated and occasionally hairy. A millimeter-wide cyathium makes up the small inflorescence. Around the real flowers, it has white, scalloped appendages that resemble petals. At the center are several male flowers and one female flower, which develops into a lobed, oval fruit up to 2 millimeters wide. Is spurge always invasive?

The toxins in leafy spurge impair the digestive system and weaken cattle when consumed. It can also result in death when consumed in high quantities. When fed in the dry form with hay, cattle have been known to consume green spurge, despite the fact that they normally reject it.
According to a research by North Dakota State University, the direct annual financial impact in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming is estimated to be 40.2 million dollars, according to the Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory.
How can we prevent the spread of Euphorbia?
Biennial stems are produced by some cultivars. Accordingly, there are two different kinds of shoots on plants: growth from this season and shoots from the season before, which bear flowers. Should Euphorbia be trimmed back?
Growth of euphorbia is either caulescent (with stems visible above ground year round) or acaulescent (having only seasonal stems above ground). Uncommonly, a third group of spurges is always woody. The final designations affect how a spurge is cut back. Caulescent kinds should not have their stems pruned in the autumn because doing so will prevent them from flowering the following spring. The entire plant can be pruned back to the ground in the fall when the acaulescent varieties go dormant. If neatness is important, all varieties can be deadheaded after flowering (see photo above).
