Early indications of this fungus include round, gray-brown spots on the surfaces of leaves and stems. As the infection worsens, these spots turn fuzzy with mold. It is the type of fungus that spreads when the weather starts to cool down and get damp, typically in the early Spring or Summer. It thrives in a moist, shaded area with poor airflow.
Dishwashing soap is one of the most used home-made fungicides in the early signs of a plant affected by grey mold. Just make sure it doesn’t contain bleach or greasers. The damaged regions of plants with severe grey mold infections must be removed. It’s best to refrain from watering from the top as well.
Leaf stains
Succulents can get fungal leaf spots indoors and outdoors, although they are not harmful. What makes it annoying is that when the fungus becomes too accustomed to your plant, the small area will enlarge and start to resemble a blotch, which will probably eventually kill your plant.
A succulent with Leaf Spots can be treated in a number of secure and practical ways. You can either spray your succulent with a moderate solution of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda), using 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water, or you can use an all-purpose fungicide.

Fusarium Wilt is a fungus that lives in the soil. It penetrates the plant through the roots and starts reproducing in the vascular tissues, obstructing the plant’s ability to absorb water, leading to severe stress, wilting, yellowing, and most likely, death.
Regrettably, there is currently no known cure for fusarium wilt in plants. The fastest removal and disposal of the infected plant is the best advised course of action for this fungus. Fusarium-contaminated soil must also be removed. This will aid in limiting the spread of the fungus.
Anthracnose
A series of fungal infections known as anthracnose are brought on by members of the Colletotrichum genus. Circular, pale, sunken, or brownish patches that are characteristic of this type of fungus will cause the plant tissues to dry up and become hard like bark.
The only way to save your succulent once it has been attacked by this fungus is to remove the afflicted leaves. To further prevent the spread of this fungus, it is best to replace the contaminated plant’s soil and pot in addition to thoroughly cleaning all of your instruments.
You can apply fungicides that contain chlorothalonil, copper sprays with copper diammonia diacetate, propiconazole, and systemic fungicide thiophanate-methyl to eliminate any remaining fungal bodies and to maintain control.
Rotten Root and Crown
In comparison to other fungal illnesses, root and crown rots are among the hardest to diagnose. They don’t exhibit any distinctive symptoms that could enable you to identify an infection in your succulent.
To give you an example, a plant with root rot will first begin to wilt, then the leaves will start to turn brown, and finally the stems will start to rot, causing the plant to topple over. The roots will turn brown beneath the earth and will easily separate if the soil is carefully scraped away.
Fine feeder roots typically maintain a healthy white to tan color and can hold the root ball together effectively even if the root crown is also diseased. However, as soon as the plant’s soil is removed, brown spots can be seen on the cortex of the roots as well as the root crown or stem base.
Sadly, therapy does not work well for root and crown rot. However, this can be prevented by lowering moisture. Simply use a well-draining container and give your succulents the appropriate amount of water to achieve this. Just enough to meet the requirements of your plant. Additionally, any mulch that is longer than 4 inches should be removed to avoid letting your plant remain in excessively moist soil.

How should indoor plants be treated with fungicide?
Large, grayish-tannish spots on leaves, stems, or flowers are the most noticeable symptoms of grey mold. The fungus produces powdery, fuzzy gray spores that thrive under damp leaves, high humidity, and low temperatures. The older sections of the plant are most affected because it usually enters through a damaged stem or leaf, but it can swiftly spread and cause the areas to collapse (which looks like wrinkly, drooping, shrinking tissue).
How to handle it:
- Remove any moldy plant components and carefully toss them away after isolating the plant. In order to prevent spreading spores, don’t forget to cleanse your hands, tools, and clothing.
- Transfer your plant to a warmer, less humid location, and keep the area surrounding it well-ventilated.
- On a cloudy day, properly dry the plant and sprinkle it with a fungicide (following the instructions on the label). Bring it inside once it has dried once more.
- To eliminate the mold’s food source, be meticulous in getting rid of dead stems, blooms, and leaves as frequently as you can. Dust the cuts with cinnamon or fungicidal powder after trimming your plant or breaking a stem unintentionally to stop mold growth.
How can fungus on succulents be avoided?
- When planting and replanting your plants, use healthy soil. Fungus development may accelerate if your plants are not receiving enough nutrients. Get coarse dirt to plant your succulents in since they require a lot of drainage. To achieve the greatest results, mix some coarse potting soil into your regular soil or simply fill the container with sand. Make sure that the soil you chose is lightweight.
- Ensure that the succulent receives plenty of light or sunlight. A well-known natural mold repellent is sunlight.
- Give a ventilation source. Injurious dust particles won’t touch your succulent if there is any air, such as from a fan or an open window.
- Don’t overwater your succulent. Only water your plant when the top two inches of the soil are completely dry. Since moisture is the major component of mold, it is relatively simple for a plant that has received excessive water to develop fungi.
- Remove extra dust and debris by wiping. Household dust and debris can quickly begin to accumulate on the succulent’s soil and leaves. Wipe the soil and leaves off frequently and gently, and gather any extra leaves that have fallen. However, make sure to leave any organic debris in the soil and don’t completely remove the debris. This benefits the plant’s health.
- Apply cinnamon to the soil of your succulents on a regular basis.
Why do succulents get fungus?
Probably the easiest plants to grow are succulents. They do, however, experience issues much like the majority of plants do. Succulents exist in a wide variety of forms, hues, and dimensions, but they all have a tendency to get fungal diseases when taken out of their natural environments. Succulents are often adapted to a dry climate, hence the main cause of this is the shift in climate. They must learn how to deal with too much moisture.
Similar to succulents, fungus come in a variety of forms. Fungi on the surface are simple to identify and treat, but there are many other kinds of fungi that can cause interior rots and present far more challenging issues. Some fungus attacks are very challenging to neutralize.
When ought fungicide to be used?
The most prevalent disease that can affect a fescue lawn is brown patch, which is brought on by a fungus of the Rhizoctonia species. It appears as a circular patch of brown or yellow grass that can range in size from a few inches to several feet.
During the hot, humid summer, tall fescue grass is particularly vulnerable to brown spot.
Fungus control or lawn fungicide can be put to the lawn after a brown patch has appeared, but it is preferable to start early and administer fungus control throughout the summer.

- By irrigating only when there hasn’t been enough rain, you can prevent overwatering. During the cool months, an established fescue grass requires 1″ of water per week; during the warm months, up to 2″ per week.
- Instead of watering your lawn in the evening when moisture will not quickly dry and instead remain on the leaf blades overnight, water your lawn in the morning to allow moisture to more quickly dry off the leaf blades during the day. In the nights, watering encourages sickness.
- Raise the height of your mower for the warmer months if you normally cut it at 2.5 to 3 inches. Additionally, you should never mow more than 1/3 of the blade height each time.
- Tall fescue grass is considered a “cold-season grass,” and should only be fertilized when it is actively growing in the chilly months of early spring and late fall. Do not treat tall fescue grass during the hotter months. Applying lime to your soil to balance the pH is still OK. To determine whether you need to apply lime or fertilizer, always do a soil test.
- Compost topdressing in the fall is a sensible organic fertilization technique that not only enhances soil quality and contributes natural nutrients to the grass, but also introduces beneficial bacteria that may outcompete pathogens that cause illness.
- Start stirring a small bit of water.

Systemic fungicides should not be used on leaves that are completely or partially dead; this rule also applies to leaves whose veins have been destroyed. Systemic products can’t travel via dead leaf veins or through dead tissue, therefore they won’t be dispersed evenly throughout the plant.
By lowering moisture and humidity and enhancing spray penetration, pruning or training plants to have a more open and exposed canopy will help with disease control.
