Super easy to propagate.
When collected during their normal growth season, many kinds will readily root and can be simply propagated. Here, I used clean, sharp scissors to trim an offset off a Mammillaria elongata ‘Copper King,’ which I then let to callous for at least a week (it’s a good idea to treat both incisions with sulfur powder).
The branch should be planted in a small pot filled with a 50/50 mixture of potting soil and pumice, and should be covered with a thin layer of grit to help it stand upright. Water as soon as possible, but wait to do so until the soil feels fully dry to the touch. Tweezers or (tongs if it’s big!) can be used to tug on it to check for roots every couple of weeks. If you encounter resistance, it has taken root. Note: Less water will be needed during cooler months.
