Players must first comprehend the importance of cacti in the game’s process for producing lime dye. The only plant that can provide players with green dye, which is a primary color dye, is the cactus, a plant that thrives in desert biomes. Cactus blocks can be melted in a furnace to produce green dye if the player has them.
The green dye can then be mixed with bone meal or white dye to create lime dye. Players mostly get the quasi-primary color in this way. But this is not the only approach.
Smelting sea pickles
Players without access to white dye or cactus blocks can get lime dye by melting sea pickles in a furnace.
Sea pickles are tiny underwater blocks that are often found in groups of four and can fit on one block. The warm waters and on top of coral blocks in coral reefs are where these little blocks form most frequently. By hand or with any other tool, they are easily breakable.
To produce lime color, these materials can be immediately melted in a furnace using any fuel. One method to get the desired quasi-primary dye without a cactus is by doing this.
Wandering trader
Wandering traders are inert creatures that appear anywhere in the overworld at random and engage in extensive item trading with players. Dye products are among those that can be traded, and players can exchange three lime dyes for one emerald.
While technically possible, this method isn’t the best or most dependable way to obtain dye because the trade list generator is utterly arbitrary.
Without cacti, how can you get green dye in Minecraft?
In Minecraft, there are three ways to get green dye. You can find it in house chests in desert villages, process it yourself with a furnace and a cactus, or trade it for 1 emerald with a roaming trader in exchange for 3 green dye. We will concentrate on smelting cacti because it is the most reliable method of growing green dye because trading with a roaming trader and finding treasure chests in the desert depend more on luck than anything else.
What digs up cacti the quickest?
Only sand, red sand, or another cactus block may be used to place a cactus block. If any block made of a solid substance or lava occupies any of the four horizontally adjacent blocks, the cactus splits (and falls as an object). It also crumbles when placed on sand and the block above is made of lava or water.
Every 0.5 seconds, one damage is taken when a cactus is touched by any entity, including players and mobs. Armor lessens damage from touching a cactus, but touching one also harms the armor. Cacti are not avoided by hordes when they pathfind.
Any object that comes into contact with a cactus, even another cactus in item form, is destroyed. When falling blocks like sand and gravel hit a cactus, they become item form rather than being destroyed (as happens when it falls into any block with a hitbox that has a height less than 1, such as slabs). The cactus in this instance will occasionally (but not always) decimate the thing that was made. Even if the falling block is a cactus (which is conceivable with /summon), the conversion to an item still holds true.
A minecart that runs into a cactus block drops as an item and is frequently destroyed, though a hopper can pick it up more quickly.
A cactus measures 78 of a block in width (equal to chests) and a whole block in height, although the collision box is 1516 of a block high (excluding the spikes).
Does Minecraft contain any green dye?
One of the various dyes that players can create in Minecraft is a green dye. It is a product that can be produced using a furnace as opposed to a crafting table.
Add Items to make Green Wool
You should see a crafting area with a 3×3 crafting grid in the crafting menu. Put one wool and one green dye in the 3×3 crafting grid to create green wool.
It’s crucial to arrange the wool and green dye exactly as shown in the image below for creating green wool. In the first row, the first box should have one green dye, and the second box should include one wool. This is how green wool is made in Minecraft.
The green wool will now show up in the box to the right once you have used the suitable pattern to fill the crafting space.
In Minecraft, how can you manufacture organic green dye?
The Green Dye, originally known as “Cactus Green,” is a new item in vanilla Minecraft. Typically, it is made by putting cactus blocks in a furnace. It can be used to tint some objects green.
How does one create green naturally?

- Add water and spinach to a medium saucepan. Cook for 15 minutes after bringing water to a boil.
- Cool down. In a food processor or blender, combine spinach and water.
- To get rid of any big bits, strain the liquid using a strainer.
- Liquid can be frozen for up to 4 months or kept in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.
Can you use mint to dye?
Mordant. Before attempting to dye yarn and cloth with plants, we prepare them by mordanting them. Between the plant’s natural dye and the fiber, mordants serve as a bond. Different fibers require different mordants. Additionally, various mordants are employed to produce various results on fibers. Let’s focus on producing colorfast, lightfast color with our mordants for the time being.
Animal fibers should be weighed using a kitchen scale. Ten percent of that weight in alum should be measured out and added to your pot of ice-cold tap water. After heating to just below boiling, add fiber. Allow the fiber to soak in the almost boiling water for about an hour, stirring frequently. You have two options at this point: take the fiber, squeeze out the excess liquid, and color right away; or let the fiber cool with the water and dye later.
Plant fibers should be soaked in a solution of one part soy milk to four parts water for one hour. Soak for the entire night, then squeeze out as much moisture as you can before letting it air dry.
Harvest and dye plants. In your garden, mint will grow quickly and in great abundance. If you want to promote the growth of your mint plants, only take the leaves. Feel free to harvest the entire plant if you want to keep your mint plants under control.
Immersion dyeing: After or during the mordanting process, the dye should be made. You can gently heat leaves, stems, and/or roots on the stove for an hour using tap water. Avoid boiling dye plants. All too frequently, this ruins or dulls the color.
Heat mint leaves and/or stems beginning with cold tap water to produce a delicate green coloring. Add iron water to the dye bath to get shades ranging from light gray to silver to charcoal. Below, we talk more about iron water.
Save some leaves still on their stems for a fun experiment to try eco printing and bundle dyeing. Details are provided below.
For immersion dyeing, remove all plant matter from the pot until the only thing left is the dye liquid. You should add enough water to the dye to allow the fiber to float freely before adding your yarn and fabric. For an hour, heat gently and gradually. When the fiber is left to cool in the dye overnight, color usually tends to be the brightest and most colorfast.
Take the fiber out of the dye pot, then rinse it under cold running water. let it air dry (not in the sun). Enjoy!
Try this technique for bundle dyeing and eco printing if you prefer the concept of turning your plants and cloth into an Impressionist painting as opposed to a uniform color. Lay out your yarn or cloth on a spotless surface. There are no specific guidelines here; arrange your plant materials however you choose. Your yarn or fabric should be carefully rolled into bundles before being secured with a rubber band or string. For the fullest color, steam your fiber for 1-2 hours, then let it cool fully or sit overnight. Remove the plant stuff from your fiber, then untie it before rinsing it in cold water. let it air dry (not in the sun). Enjoy!
Iron water: Dyers can change colors to moodier, grayer tones by adding iron to water as a solution. Collect rusty iron pieces (nails and other hardware work well) to make iron water. Place them inside a glass jar. Pour a little white vinegar in. Add as much cold tap water as possible to the container. Shake the contents of the container vigorously to blend them. Before using, let the jar sit for at least a week (and preferably a month). If eco printing or bundle dyeing, dip your plant water into the iron water to produce sharp leaf veins and edges.
To change colors from gold to green, green to gray, pink to purple, and other hues, add iron water to dye baths.
For your plant-dye diary, be careful to retain a small piece of your dyed fabric together with notes on your mordant, the date and location of your harvest, the equipment you used, and any other pertinent information. This notebook will not only convert into a rainbow of lovely plant colors, but it will also enable you to duplicate any of your preferred plant dyes and gain a deeper understanding of their properties.

How can natural green paint be made?
Have you ever wondered how to create homemade dyes or paints for use around the house using some of the gorgeous hues in your garden?
Making colors from plants is an ancient craft that will make you feel as though you’re returning to your roots (no pun intended). Making your own plant-based dyes will make you feel more like a pioneer if you are interested in living more naturally or in the art of homesteading in general.
There is another another obvious reason why you should think about creating your own dyes. Putting modern synthetic dyes close to our bodies may not be the best course of action. Studies about the hazards of chemical dyes keep coming out. According to ABC News, a Rutgers University study revealed that PCB 11, a chemical present in yellow dyes used in everything from bath towels to notepads, may be harmful to human health. It has been connected in the past to cancer, irritability, birth deformities, and developmental problems. The Toxic Substances Control Act actually forbade it in 1979, but a loophole allows it to find its way into consumer items in lower doses.
Additionally, a lot of the common colors we use, such Yellow #5, Blue #1, and Red #40, have been connected to ADHD. Following a diet free of food colouring ants, symptoms in children significantly improved.
Of course, there are gray areas in this situation. Additional research was required for the PCB 11 study, because many people live healthy, active lives while being exposed to chemical dyes. However, perhaps you should err on the side of caution. Or, let’s be honest, creating your own dye can simply be enjoyable. Making your own plant-based colors will do more to instill in you a sense of independence and tough competence than anything else.
Most likely, you’re unsure about where to begin. It’s simpler than you would imagine. Basic colours can be produced by harvesting common plants from the produce section. If you truly want to reconnect with nature, you can also think about going on a natural foraging expedition or creating a garden using some of these dye-making supplies.
To get you started, the list of plants that will yield each hue is provided below. Even while this isn’t a complete list, it does include some of the most well-known and accessible natural products.
Brown: Mud. No, this isn’t a plant, but you’ll need to get inventive with various natural dyes if you want a whole color spectrum. This one works well as a natural paint when combined with water. Another use for beetroot skin is as a brown fabric dye.
Purple/Red/Pink: Here are some common berries that will be useful. You can use raspberries, black currants, red currants, elderberries, huckleberries, strawberries, cherries, and cherries. Beets, roses, pomegranates, hibiscus, day lilies, and basil leaves are further options.
Blue: This choice is clear-cut. Obtain some blueberries now. The juice can be combined with some distilled vinegar. You can also use elderberries, red cabbage, purple grapes, and indigo.
Yellow: A common choice for yellow is onion skins. Additionally effective are celery leaves, sunflower petals, bay leaves, dandelion flowers, marigolds, and turmeric.
Green: Probably the simplest option. You can use spinach, lilacs, peppermint leaves, artichokes, or plain old grass.
