Before separating these young plants from the parent trunk to pot them singly or in a set of 2–3 plants depending on the pot size, give them time to develop and produce their own aerial roots.

Step 2 Wet the soil and carefully spade out each stem from the surrounding soil. One at a time, try to gently remove it from the saucepan. Due of their shallow roots, they are typically relatively simple to work with. The image at Step 2 shows a more in-depth look of the stem together with its offshoots and related aerial root nodes. These offshoots can now be cut off so that you can grow new plants.

Step 3: You should be able to distinguish distinct growths and cut them apart there. Cutting between a half and an inch above and below each node along the stem with a sharp knife, being sure to leave the aerial roots intact, will allow you to separate each offshoot from the stem. Typically, you pick an offshoot or a separate stem with lots of leaves. Cut it off from the main stem as close to the base as you can. From the main stem shown in Step 2’s photograph, we were able to cut, detach, and prepare to plant two offshoots with aerial roots, which can be seen in Step 3’s picture.

Step 4: For two weeks, plant the young cuttings in wet soil away from the sun. Additionally, it may be planted directly into the ground. Therefore, you are prepared to pollinate if stigmatic fluid is visible and pollen is flowing (either from a storage plant or another plant). When they ‘pop out’ of the spadix, you will know they are ready ( Fig. 3 ). Some species’ berries “pop out” all at once, while others do so over the course of several days as they successively ripen. These berries, complete with seeds, are prepared. Between your fingers, you can easily squeeze the berry’s seeds out. The seed should be sown right away because it quickly dessicates and loses viability. Seed storage has little value.
