How To Care For A Philodendron Selloum?

The Philodendron Hope Selloum (Philodendron bipinnatifidum), also known as the Tree Philodendron or Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum, is a hardy native of South America’s tropical regions. Their deeply lobed leaves can grow up to almost 5 feet in the right conditions, but they can still give any room a tropical vibe indoors.

The Hope Selloum thrives in a warm, humid area with plenty of water and light. Put your Selloum in a location that gets medium to bright indirect light. This plant does not thrive in low-light environments. It can withstand very bright light, however it may require special attention.

Is philodendron selloum easy to care for?

The philodendron selloum, often known as “tree philodendron,” is a terrific way to give a tropical flair to any space in your home. They’re easy to look after and have lovely, broad tropical leaves that can brighten up any room. “Horse head philodendron,” “hope philodendron,” “lacy tree philodendron,” and “split leaf philodendron” are all names for the philodendron selloum.

Is philodendron selloum an indoor plant?

In most of the United States, Philodendron selloum, commonly known as tree Philodendron or lacy tree Philodendron, is grown as a houseplant. It is a tropical plant native to South America that may grow up to 15 feet tall when planted outdoors. Its greatest attraction is its enormous, glossy, deep green leaves, which can act as a focal point in a larger space or anchor a grouping of lesser plants. It isn’t a diva and thrives with little attention.

Why is my philodendron selloum droopy?

Due to excess water in the soil and a poor drainage system, the roots of the philodendrons may begin to rot. Lower leaves may wilt and droop as a result of this.

Root rot is caused by too much water and a lack of air movement. It gets a little more difficult to save a sick plant. Pruning the decaying roots and repotting the plant in a new container, on the other hand, will improve the plant’s health.

Can philodendron Selloum full sun?

Selloum provides a lovely foundation or specimen planting when given ample room to spread, and it can also be used in big containers, where it looks especially attractive at poolside.

Although it appears to require deep shade, selloum grows well in broad sun or partial shade and requires a reasonably rich, moisture-retentive soil to thrive. Most people don’t realize how big this shrub may develop when they plant it.

Does philodendron Selloum climb?

My aura is untamed, tropical, rich, and ethereal. Although I am a non-climbing Philodendron, I will grow big and strong in a large room, so make sure you put me somewhere with enough of space. You may also use me on terraces and balconies because I am wind resistant. I will offer a brilliant burst of color when there is a neutral color scheme. You can put me in living rooms, halls, bedrooms, offices, conference rooms, or anywhere else with a lot of natural light. If you set me against a wall, such as a room corner, rotate my container to ensure that all of the foliage receives the same amount of light.

When should I repot my Selloum philodendron?

You should repot your tree philodendron in early spring, just when the plant is emerging from its winter dormancy, like with all repottings. Daytime temperatures should ideally exceed 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 C).

Put potting soil in the bottom third of the new container. With your palm flat against the earth and the stem securely between two fingers, gently move the plant out of its current container. Shake off as much soil from the roots as possible over the pot, then place the plant inside the container, spreading out the roots. Fill the container with potting soil until it reaches the plant’s previous level.

Water your plant until the drainage holes are completely dry. Replace the plant in its original location and wait until the top layer of soil is dry before watering it again. In 4-6 weeks, you should detect fresh growth.

If transplanting a lacy tree philodendron is impossible due to its size, remove the top 2-3 inches of soil every two years and replace it with fresh potting soil.

How fast does Philodendron selloum grow?

It takes about 15–20 years for an indoor selloum to bloom. Poisonous to tiny children, dogs, cats, and other pets, the philodendron selloum is a poisonous plant.

How do you perk up a philodendron?

Fertilizer – Use a balanced liquid foliage houseplant fertilizer with macro-nutrients to feed philodendron houseplants. Fertilize the plant once a month in the spring and summer, and once every six to eight weeks in the fall and winter. The plant’s slow growth and small leaf size are signs that it isn’t getting enough fertilizer. Pale new leaves are usually an indication that the plant is lacking in calcium and magnesium, both of which are important micronutrients for philodendrons.
